Lincoln Feature Tests Ten Fillies Hartwicks Crack Homebred Miss Conceding Flyamanita Poundage at Six Furlongs By J. J. MURPHY 11 Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., June 12. — The Lincoln Fields Racing Association presents one of the best programs of the 1951 season at Washington Park tomorrow with a nine-race card featured by the Twilight Tear Purse for three-year-old fillies at six furlongs. Ten of that age and sex were entered for the headliner. They include the sensational filly Sickles Image, bred in Michigan by an obscure sire, and owned by Clarence Hartwick of that state. Sickles Image has been one of the most widely traveled thoroughbreds of the past two years, racing on both coasts and in most of the leading centers in between. Last year at two she won six of her 11 starts, including the Hollywood Lassie at Hollywood Park and the James H. Conners Memorial at Narragansett. This year she won four consecutive races at four different tracks. These included the Ashland Stakes at Keeneland in which she beat* Juliets Nurse, How, Carolina Queen and others. Her other wins were scored*, at Lincoln Downs, Jamaica, "and Churchiil: Downs. At the latter Louisville traW finished third to How and Astro in. the Kentucky Oaks and second to Jennie Lee in the Armed Forces Purse. 1 Will You Dance in Headliner Sickles Image meets formidable rivals in the Twilight Tear. They include Reverie Knoll Farms Flyamanita, winner of the Pollyanna and Princess Pat-Stakes and one of the outstanding fillies of 1950. Others are Walmac Farms Native Valor and Duty Dance, Brown Hotel. Stables Fleeterthan, Charleton Clays Lyceum, H.-F. Krimen-dahls Roman Miss, Mrs. S. Ippolitos Lady Indian, W. M. Wickhams Well Worth It, and R. Lowes Will You Dance. While this is an overnight condition race it has all the other elements of a stake. The conditions require Sickles Image to concede from four pounds to Flyamanita to 17 to her rivals, Well Worth it being the lightweight at 104 pounds, with 112 for Will You Dance, and 109 for the others. The feature race is named in honor of the great mare Twilight Tear, leading three-year-old of her year. That year, 1944, she won 14 races, including eight stakes, among which were the Arlington Classic, The Coaching Club American Oaks, Pim-lico Oaks, Acorn Stakes, and Pimlico Special. This six furlong event drew eight good sprinters. They are Miss Highbrow, Bolingover, Eagle River, Not Sorry, War Talk, Countess In, Dark Tiny, and Clevelander. Also honored on the mid-week program are Twilight Tears dam, Lady Lark, and granddam, Ladana, as well as the latters sire, Ariel. The Lady Lark is for two-year-olds under allowance conditions and drew nine good ones. They are Dance Nsing, Eds Pride, John C. C, Ever Bright, Dry Summer, Hudgens, Playman, Sturdy Miss, and Ace Captain. The Ladana, for two-year-old maidens, filled to capacity with 18 entered. The Ariel, seven furlongs for four-year-olds and upward, has 12 starters. Only four of the nine races are under claiming conditions and the program is, altogether, one which exceeds in interest many Saturday cards.
