Divide Trot Stake Again At Sportsmans Park Brazie and Way Yonder Favored In Respective Ends of Feature SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., June 12. — Another heavy entry list in the 20 class trotting stake gives harness racing fans at Sportsmans Park a divided feature again Wednesday night. A field of 10 trotters goes to the post in the fourth race for a total of ,800, while the sixth race drew the other nine entrants who race for ,770. The odd amounts in the purse figures are arrived at through the expedient of returning the entry fee money tojthe horsemen racing. The stake was originally scheduled for ,000. However, racing secretary Jerry Baier split the 19 horses into two divisions and added a good share to the purse, giving the owners a total of ,570 in prize money. Glen Barkers Way Yonder has. been backed down to the 20 class division from a 12 class trotter, and could be the class of the field in the sixth race. Way Yonder, a son of Volomite, had a disappointing season last year, thus making him eligible for the race. However, he has shown good form so far this year and looks like a standout. E. L. Jordans Bob Up, a sentimental hope of the Rockford family, showed he was a comer at the end" of last year and might give Way Yonder a good battle. Bob Up is by Follow Up,.who also sired Pay Up, the famous old campaigner. Other entries in the sixth race are Senator Way, Ramble Song, Clever Song, Little Duffy, Lu McEllen, and Victor Darnley and Overtime are in the field. Brazie, with a mark of 2:06%, owned by Clyde Woody of Madison, seems to be tbe .standout in the first half of the stake. Besides the two stakes events, the seventh race offers a field of seven free-for-all trotters a one-dash purse of ,000. Again Glen Barker with Moses and Fay Spencer racing as an entry, has the best chance. Jake Mahoney, second-place driver at last years Chicago Downs meet, will pilot Moses while Glenn Hawkins will be in the sulky for Fay Spencer Moses, usually a slow starter in the spring, led all trotters in money winnings at Cicero in 1950 with ,700 and eight victories. Fay Spencer, a great stretch runner, is dangerous against any type of field if she decides to trot. Most competition for the Barker entry is expected from Paul Doughertys Johnny Brown, who went the mile in 2:04% at Westbury, N. Y., recently. Dougherty paid , 5,000 for the six-year-old son of Tryax and has won nearly ,000 already this season. The LaGrange business man came . into the harness business this season with , a string of four horses acquired during the winter and spring. Harry Burrights Jerry A. Hannover, a dependable seven-year-old, is also a trotter to be reckoned with. Usually a front runner, he could take it all with a good getaway. However, he starts from the outside Wednesday night. Other entries in the free-for-all trot include Jeffrey Hanover, Little Steve and Gene Long. Gene Long has been known to surprise fans at crucial times.
