Adams Abducted, Robbed And Beaten by Bandits Rider Suffers Face Lacerations, Body Briuses En Route to Track WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., June 12. — Jockey John Adams, leading rider of the meeting, was forced to cancel his mounts on todays program due to severe lacerations about the face and multiple body bruises received when abducted during the early morning hours by three masked assailants. At approximately 4:45 a. m., Adams and his son, Johnny Jr., started to leave their home at Steger, 111., for the Washington Park track when accosted by the three men and at gun point were compelled to enter the bandits car. Following a brief ride, the trio brought their car to a halt and after taking 50 from the jockeys pocket, immediately began to strike him about the face. As added punishment one of the hoodlums brought from the automobile a crowbar and began slashing Adams around the knees and liips. The veteran reinsman was badly bruised»following the attack and after his final release from the car, drove with his son to the nearest police station. During the attack on Adams, one of the masked men also started to belabor John Jr., but decided not to molest the youngster when it became apparent that he was not carrying a large sum of money. After giving local police details of the robbery and beating, Adams came to the track and requested permission from the stewards to cancel his mounts on the afternoons program.
