EMORY A., prominent from the start, reached the lead entering the stretch and, in a long drive, held SWIRLING safe. The latter moved up with a rush on the outside to reach near even terms with the leader nearing the furlong marker, then appeared to hang during the late stages. RAWLINS rallied too late to seriously endanger the top ones. COQUINET tired under pressure. MESCARA came out for the drive, but under punishment was not good enough. WHOSE was always between horses. BOLO HOWIE quit STORM KING was outrun. EASY BUY went to his knees at the start and lost all chance. CONVALESCENT retired steadily after showing brief speed. _ Scratched— 30825 Indian Gold, 111. BROWN into defeat to assume a clear lead after a half mile, tired slightly when set down for the ultimate test, but had enough left to prevail over ROSILY. The latter improved her position to the stretch, responded readily when shaken up for the drive and closed with good courage. PRINCE JOY closed a gap. MAIL FROM HOME, taken up repeatedly when in slightly close quarters on the turn and entering the stretch, came out for the drive, but failed to make up appreciable ground. SUN IDOL BOY lacked a rally. SGT. BROWN, much used early, had little left. CLIMBER quit. BILL TWIG was through early. HALCYON DUKE never seriously threatened. MARCIL improved her position on the outside after being outrun early, but was no match for the leaders. BEAUTIFUL JANE had no apparent excuse. MING TOI failed to stay. GALADEAR quit. MERRY THOUGHT bolted on the final turn and lost all chance. FINAL FOLLY and COLETOWN MAID never threatened. MESABI, slow to reach best stride, came out to the middle of the track for the drive and, under clever handling, was up in the final strides to outgame BIDANDMADE. The latter made the pace to the stretch under steady rating, then held on willingly in a sharp effort. BROWN SMOKE made up some ground when hard ridden through the stretch. OPEN WAY closed a gap. CHAR S. V. was unable to keep up. ROMAN VULCAN lacked speed, as did IMPULSIVE SAM. IN CLASS, forced to take up sharply on the far turn, failed to recover. CURIOUS REWARD was through early. WORCESTER, forced to take up when in close quarters during the stretch run, regained stride readily and held on tenaciously. BEIRUT came out for the drive, but was not good enough.
