NavyChief Finishes Fast in Bracadale Holds Length Advantage Over Favored Steel Blue As Stunts Annexes Show BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 12. — Elm Crest Farms Navy Chief, who has been tiring in sprints, came from behind in the stretch to win the featured Bracadale Handicap today by a length from Harry Lamontagnes Steel Blue, the favorite. G. H. "Pete" BostwicKs Stunts, who was surprisingly ignored in the betting, finished a head farther back after setting the pace to just above the furlong pole, while Ben F. Whitakers Deep Blue was almost a length out of the money. A throng of 19,448 attended the moderate program in pleasantly sunny weather, but the favorite players among them had a chilly afternoon, none reaching the warmer cashiers windows through the feature. Stunts Goes Into Lead With the exception of Hull Down, who climbed in his action, the field raced out of the gate as a team in the Bracadale, a classified event. Stunts forged into the lead after a sixteenth *and was soon a half length before Deep Blue, who led Steel Blue by the same margin in the run to the far turn. Navy Chief was only a head farther back on the outside, closely followed by Quick Fire on the rail, while Hull Down was daylight behind the field. Near-ing the curve, Quick Fire was squeezed out of contention, while Stunts widened his lead and jockey Basil James began to look back as though wondering where the speed was, though his mount stepped the half in A5% and went on to get the six furlongs in 1:10%. Stunts continued to lead into the stretch, but Steel Blue stormed up to challenge as they rounded the final bend, with Navy Chief making a strong bid on the outside. Navy Chief took command just above the eighth pole and gradually drew away, under pressure, while Steel Blue had all he could do to take second money from Stunts, who held on stubbornly. Deep Blue ran an even race, while Hull Down closed a little ground on the rail at the end-to be fifth, while Quick Fire was eased when thoroughly beaten.
