Asburys Sell Three Colts on August 2 Two Are by Brookfield and Other by Polynesian; Farm Has Good Breeding Record By HUGH C. McGUIRE Staff Correspondent LEXINGTON, Ky., June 21.— The most exacting buyers of yearlings never overlook consignors who offer only a small number of youngsters at the Keeneland Summer Sales, for they are not only aware that a top colt could come from almost anywhere but they are conscious also that such yearlings must pass the most rigorous "selection" tests. Percentages find such consignors rating favorably with larger groups. One such consignment this season is that of Charles A. Asbury and his son, Thomas, who offer three colts on the final afternoon of the sales, Thursday, August 2. Although he has bred only a few horses each year, horses bred by Charles Asbury have won 59,282 during the last six years. The three colts are half-brothers to 10 horses, all winners including three stakes winners and two that placed in stakes. Out of Miss Merriment Two of the colts are by the young stallion, Brookfield, who appears destined to transmit his dazzling speed to his offspring. A brown youngster by this stallion is from the good mare, Miss Merriment. This matron, a stake winner herself, has four foals of racing age. Three of these are the stake winners, Class Day, Stunts and Boomdeay. The other is Armistice Day who won 21 races and placed in stakes. This youngster is of the Equipoise family and Miss Merriment is by High Time. The other Brookfield colt is from the Pennant mare, Airy Going, whose five foals of racing age have won. He is a well -put-together, racy type with every indication of speed combined with compactness. The third colt is a handsome son of Polynesian — Narki. This mare has had only one foal to race, the winner Fullblast. Narki is a half-sister to La Rose, dam of Turco, who is giving such a good account of himself in English stakes.
