Expect Sixty Jockeys For Centennial Meeting Twenty Already on Hand for Session Opening on June 30 LITTLETON, Colo., June 21.— There will be no shortage of top riders at Centennial Park during the meeting which gets under way here Saturday, June 30. With some 60 reinsmen expected for the meeting there are already close to 20 here now working and breezing horses during training hours. Among, the better known saddlesmiths slated to perform at Centennial are: Mel-vin Lewis, the West Coast jockey who rode here with marked success last season and is currently riding at the Hollywood Park meeting; Otto Grohs, who was also seen in action here last year; Lonnie Knowles, the apprentice sensation, who scored six winning mounts and a second out of seven accepted mounts during the Arizona Downs meeting, and who at this writing is the leading apprentice rider at Portland Meadows. Three riders here will be attempting comebacks after being out of the saddle for several seasons. They include: Darrein Clingman, Billy Davidson and Chuck Par-vin. Clingman, one of the better riders in the East and Middle West several seasons ago, is now working for Al Gomez, the California horseman, who has one of the most powerful organizations at Centennial. Davidson, one of the top riders at Detroit a few years back, is now doing a light 110 pounds and has been here since the track opened for training purposes. Parvin, out of the racing business longer than the other two, has been attending a Veterinarians College, but will be ready to ride by opening day. 3 From Omaha will come Jack Keene, Jerry Vinson, Harold "Pinky" Walker, and Ellis Gray, among others. | Several riders came to Centennial direct from the recently concluded meeting at , Brush, Colo. They include: Elmer Keen, who was the leading rider there, and whose contract is currently held by owner-trainer 2 John Shuman; Sammy Miller, the veteran a saddlesmith, who rode here with a good share of success last season; Mel Houghton and Cliff Jacobs. I Paul Jaquez, the leading quarter horse I rider in the country today is already on r hand galloping horses. | Meanwhile, the heavy influx of horses v continues, with an assurance that well be- s fore opening day the entire stable area will be completely filled. At the present there t are some 300 horses stabled at Centennial I with an additional 40 quarter horses sta- s bled at the nearby Arapahoe County Fair- i grounds. | e
