CHUBBY BOSS moved to the lead after a quarter mile, increased his margin, saved ground on the turns and held on gamely under intermittent urging MISTFLOWER, sluggish in the first quarter mile, came between horses when roused and was going well at the end. LOST KEY forced the pace and held on tenaciously: APENNINE broke alertly, was steadied to the final quarter mile, then lacked a closing rally. ESSIE S. closed with a late rush. AL BATTEN lacked early speed. ARCTIC IKE raced evenly. NATIVE ROSE was in close quarters. OLD TAR had speed for five furlongs, then flattened out. MAGADA tired. The others were outrun. GOOD SWEEP raced close to the pace under light restraint, assumed command when roused and drew out. SIR GORHILL, forwardly placed, responded to urging and closed ground in the stretch. GERHAM drew clear soon after the start, established the pace for a haif mile, then weakened. GAMS saved ground to better late position. FROZEN CUSTARD broke smartly, dropped back quickly and was never a serious factor. JAMES D. flattened out. WAR CHAMP was unable to keep up. The others were never prominent. GOLDEN MEAN improved position gradually, closing with good energy. PENCELL worked his way up on the outside to close willingly. SICKLE DID established the pace for five furlongs before tiring. DANDY FOOT weakened from forcing the pace. MISS KAZOO showed nothing. SNEAK had no mishap. MAMA C. was never prominent. ZO-BO was unable to keep up. SYRACUSE was taken up soon after the start, remained in hand to the final quarter mile and closed willingly. COVENANT forced the pace, then weakened in the late stages. JADE LAD came outside of horses near the end and finished stoutly. JUANA had no mishap. MOTHER MORRIS weakened after forcing the pace. GILDSIE showed nothing. HAREM was never prominent. QUESTAGAIN, in hand to the far turn, moved around the leaders to assume command, drew clear and maintained the advantage under steady urging. FIREWOOD rushed boldly to be near the leader entering the stretch and was pressing to the end. MOCHA worked his way up into contention in the stretch, but lacked a closing rally. CHALTRICK broke alertly, remained in close attendance of the pace to the final turn, then failed to respond. BILLY BOWLEGS had no mishap GIFT PACKAGE weakened. THEATRE PASS, closer to the pace than usual, moved into command after six furlongs, drew clear and was under intermittent pressure to the end MARYMIGIRL forced the pace, assumed a short lead leaving the backstretch, gave way to the winner, but continued on gamely. SAM H. worked his way up on the outside, but was unable to menace. PROUD SIR failed to respond to late pressure. MARTONNA, in hand to the stretch, was blocked when attempting to come between horses. SAILING HIGH set the pace for a half mile, then retired steadily. BIGDOME and WELL WELL were never prominent. Overweight— Theatre Pass, 2 pounds; Martonna, 5; Bigdome, 4. Sam H claimed by Mrs. E. WATER KELPIE worked her way up on the outside to threaten on the final turn, continued on gamely, but was not good enough. PROFESSOR JOE overtook the leader after five furlongs, drew clear, but was unable to maintain advantage under stout urging. UGLY CHILE, on the outside to the stretch, came through along the inside and was in close quarters. MISS ELANEOUS broke sluggishly, worked her way up on the inside, but was caught in close quarters and had little chance near the end. FORTNIGHT had no mishap. OUTBIRD was outrun. TAP THE TILL was hustled into the early lead, increased margin, then stopped after being caught. SURPRISED was outrun. Scratched— 31695 Sun Goddess, 101; 31331 Hikie Dikie, 114.
