Closely Matched Field Goes in Homeland Purse Mr. Buster and Bold Jo Vie for Favorites Role at Monmouth MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 21. — As closely a matched field as 1 one could wish to find will meet here tomorrow in the featured Homeland Purse. • Eight horses, running for seven interests, will take up the challenge at six furlongs, with any one of the group appearing r capable of a winning effort. The favoritism will likely be given to either John L. McKnights Mr. Buster or Jay Cee Farms Bold Jo, who are both l sprinters with enough early speed to assure a good position during the running and I seem well placed against this company. The weight- assignments for the Homeland are nominal, with Mr. Buster and I J Pensava, a swift but moody performer owned by Joe Gavegnano, picking up the top burdens of 115 pounds. The lightweight • of the band is George M. Crumps 5 filly Tea Deb, who gets in under 105 pounds ; with the apprentice allowance. . Others in the field are J. Gavegnanos Fighting Fleet, coupled as an entry with Pensava; H. W. Finchers Boodle, Pentagon Stables Chloe and J. M. Roeblings Admiral Drake. Bold Jo supplied keen contention for r the early pace in his race here on opening - day, in which he weakened a bit and 1 finished fifth behind such hefty rivals as Tea-Maker, Sheilas Reward and the winning Jess Linthicum. On the surface it t would appear that the effort would call 1 for a triumph over tomorrows company, but he was competing over a "good" track, , which is decidedly to his liking, and he is 5 often found wanting in stamina for the ; crucial test. Bold Jo, a five-year-old son l of Bold Irishman, also turned in excellent t efforts in his only two previous star+s this I year at Garden State, but he has not been l a winner since last September. Mr. Buster, one of the most consistent t allowance sprinters on the Jersey circuit, ,, won his last race under heavy weight and 1 in good time at Delaware Park. He will 1 have the services of jockey Fernando Fernandez, - which augurs well for his success, ;, while Bold Jo will receive the equally efficient - handling of Sammy Boulmetis. Pensava is to be considered the stronger r half of the Gavegnano entry, although t r - 1 t 1 , 5 ; l t I l t ,, 1 1 - ;, - r t Fighting Fleet has been freshened up since his campaign over distances of ground and, in his sharp condition, could prove an up-s set. No doubt Pensava is capable of de-• f eating this band, but he has been decidedly rank in his recent races and ■ cannot be depended on to give his best. Admiral Drake raced well in New Jer- sey last year and he has turned in some good ones recently at Belmont Park. He finished a length behind Bold Jo here on opening day, but was at no stage a serious factor. Chloe and Tea Deb, the only two fillies ; in the feature, are both swift and efficient. . I Chloe is ready after a campaign at Dela- ware Park and was very successful over the i local course last year. Tea Deb does not appear the same caliber filly she was a I season ago and has been idle since Garden I State Park. Boodle comes from a long retirement of eight months, during which time he was ; privately purchased by Fincher from the ! C. V. Whitney stable. He was a shifty sort ; last year and could be dangerous.
