■ ! ■ I Senate Executive Committee Favors Passage of Mutuel Bill SPRINGFIELD, 111., June 21.— The Senate . Executive Committee yesterday rec- . ommended passage of a bill to increase by 1 per cent the pari-mutuel tax on run- . ning races. The vote was 15 to 2, with Senators . Arthur Bidwill and Roland Libonati i the only members of the committee to vote against it. The committee postponed ac- . tion on the bill last week by a 10 to 9 vote » and since then the House approved the ; measure, 105 to 0. The prqposed measure would increase ; the "take" at Ilinois tracks to 14 per cent in metropolitan areas and to 15 per cent t for tracks located in counties of less than i 250,000 population. Proponents of the measure estimate ,- - 400,000 would be raised in revenue in this 5 manner, with the money to be used to help finance a Chicago lake front fair as well 1 as downstate fairs.
