I., June 21. — Judge James E. Dooley and his associates are bending every effort to attract the best equine talent to Narragansett Park for the meeting of 24 days which opens July 2. About 300 horses who have been primed to top racing condition at Belmont Park, Garden State Park. Delaware Park and historic Pimlico will come on to bolster the New England contingent and stimulate a new competitive urge. In the two top stakes of the meeting, the Providence, for three-year-olds and the Narragansett Nursery for two-year-olds, will be seen a number of newcomers. In connection with the Providence the Narragansett managament is formulating a plan which conceivably could clarify the three-1 year-old situation and possibly point out the champion. An announcement along these lines will be made later. A stable typical of the new horses to compete at the meeting was among the early arrivals over the week-end. It is comprised of 12 head, the property of Torrence Melrose, the popular Cleveland hotel man, which came direct from Belmont Park. Bedded down under the watchful eye of trainer Jimmy Watts the consignment includes eight two-year-olds, three of whom, Union Lady, Clara Patricia and Lost Story will be named for the Nur-, sery Stakes. The stout-hearted and speedy Swift Swiv, often a winner in New England, and now in top form, will be nominated for the Providence. Mel Hash, at six years, is the veteran of the string. Watts says the old bearer of the red and white Mel-1 rose silks has trained exceptionally well this year and may surprise. Torrence Mel-: rose, who has not heen to the races since the Florida season, will ease out from un-! der his many business activities and will spend the full 24 days at the meeting.
