Move for Flat Mutuel Take7 at Ontario Tracks Senate Debates Proposal Calling For 9 Pet. to Tracks, 8 to Province TORONTO, Ont., June 4. — A move for the betterment of thoroughbred breeding and horse racing and one which would benefit the general public was presented for debate in the Senate yesterday, aiming at a flat pari-mutuel "take" to the race tracks and the government. At the present time, the overall "take" in Ontario is now 17 per cent, with the track and the provincial government sharing according to the handle of the pools for the various races on the days card. Should the handle be light the track receives a higher percentage, while the government benefits to a greater extent when the pools are higher. If the new bill were to go into effect the division would be 9 per cent for the track and 8 per cent for the government in all pools. The bill was introduced by Senator Wis-hart Robertson, government leader, and is reported to have support of the federal government. The bill, if put into effect, will give the tracks much wanted relief in the government tax in addition to providing the track operators with a better opportunity of offering larger purses to attract a higher grade of horses. The bill also provides that race tracks keep, the odd cents left over in calculating the 9 per cent. 1
