BIG HERALDER, in hand while racing forwardly placed to the stretch, assumed command when settled for the drive and, after establishing a clear lead, lasted to withstand ATHLETE. The latter, on the outside nearing the stretch, responded well when set down for the drive, but could not overtake the top one. MONTES ACE was hustled to the front early, made the pace to the last quarter mile, then faltered. MONEY WISE, outrun to the last three-eighths, was sent between horses during the stretch run and was unable to reach the leaders. JUST A BIRD raced wide entering the stretch. SUN BOUND was outrun. FREEDOM TRAIN tired after showing early speed. ISOCRATES began slowly. LIMERICK BOY was never dangerous. HEXTON raced wide. SHORT REIGN engaged MONTES ACE for three-quarters mile, then gave way. JIM BRIER, never far back, closed willingly under urging, but could not seriously threaten the top one, although much the best of the others. DR. ALEX gave a good effort and had no mishap. FARRELLS FOLLY failed to rally when set down through the stretch. BATTLE KING had early foot but failed to stay. OCEAN SKY was never prominent. MISS . LAWDY was outrun. NICE TINT, away fast and smartly handled, made the pace until reaching the stretch under steady rating, then responded to punishment and held HEDDY B. safe. The latter a sharp factor from the beginning, raced nearest NICE TINT after the start, closed determinedly under urging, but could not reach the latter. MISS PLACE lacked early spsed, but finished fast. OPEN WAY made up ground during the last quarter mile. BEAUTYS TIGER was outrun. RUTH MURPHY tired. RICKSHAW quit after showing early speed. SANDLOT, in hand to the last three-eighths mile, moved up fast on the outside entering the stretch and, continuing resolutely under punishment, disposed of the top ones in the last 70 yards. LAST STRIDE, reserved to the stretch, established a clear lead during the drive and raced determinedly under urging, but could not hold the winner. FOURTEEN GRAND, much used engaging GINNAS WAR to the stretch, faltered during the drive. OATKA lacked early sped. WAR BOOTY was outrun and had no excuse. AVONA began slowly. The latter was hustled to the front early made the Pace until inside the stretch, then faltered when challenged by GAY HUNTER and could not stay with the • latter: DOOLY lacked early foot but finished fast under hard urging through the stretch. JANINA made a mild bid nearing the final turn, then faltered during the drive. IN A SPIN, forwardly placed from the outset bore out during the entire trip and weakened during the last three-sixteenths of a mile. BULLET CEE wasover-matched.
