Seasoned Runners Hold River Downs Spotlight Wild Peter Appears to Be Best Of Nine Seeking Sprint Feature R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 4. — Racing secretary Eugene W. Bury has arranged a fine eight-race program for tomorrow headed by a pair of diversified tests for four-year-olds and upward. The first, the sixth event on the program, is the longer of the two being over a distance of one mile and a sixteenth. This affair brings together eight claimers and is entitled the "Copper Stallion." G. Manleys good mare, Crazette, appears to have this event at her mercy. The shorter allowance affair, the seventh on the Thursday program, has the Indian appellation, "the Maketewah Purse," to distinguish it from the other events on the card. This six-furlong sprint, named for a nearby country club, should provide more interest to the Cincinnati racing patrons, many of whom will be members of the club from which the feature derives its name. The complete field in the Maketewah follows: W. J. Mooks Polante Boy, Mrs; M. P. Lyons Floods Charm, Mrs. I. Smiths * Verbena, W. M. Wells Cash Money, E. Daniels Ironclad, E. G. Mahoneys Wild Peter, Arabi Downs Stables Hay Brother, W. Lapes Sweep Tiger and H. Broshier, Sr. and Jr.s, Gay Texan. Wild Peter, Polante Boy, Cash Money and Gay Texarf are all recent winners at Beulah Park who are making their first appearance on the local scene. Of these, Wild Peter appears far superior, having been successful against ,500 company in his Columbus score while Polante Boy was victor over ,000 platers. Cash Money follows the graduation, for he defeated ,250 company while Gay Texan to be consistent, vanquished ,000 claimers in his Beulah success. Since all races were over the same distance as tomorrows test the class delineation marks Wild Peter as a distinct standout. Of the others, Floods Charm has the best chance to spring the upset for the others performed dismally against cheaper than they meet here. The only advantage they might have is a*start over the course but the similiarities between the Beulah oval and this course minimize this factor.
