Cubs Turn Back Giants With Rush on Hill, 6-2 Chicago Hurler Posts Seventh Straight Win; Sauer Hits Homer By the United Press Bob Rush won his seventh straight game yesterday as the Chicago Cubs surged for five runs in the seventh inning to beat the New York Giiants, 6 to 2 at Wrigley Field. The big righthander lost an effort to tie a league record by failing to pitch his fourth straight shutout. Rush, who had blanked Cincinnati, St. Louis* and Boston in his last three starts, added 3 1-3 innings to his scoreless string today to run it to 32 2-3 innings, 13 2-3 short of Carl Hubbells league mark. Then Bobby Thomson singled, reached third on Hank Thompsons single and scored on Gene Hermanskis error. Thompson counted on Bill Howertons double. Only one Giant run was earned. Larry Jansen, the Giants starting hurler, held the Cubs hitless for four innings and gave up only one hit in six innings. That was Hank Sauers 12th home run of the season in the fifth to pull him even farther in front in the league race for most four baggers. He also held the lead RBIs with 48 and in batting with ;349. "orTOJansen was finished in the seventh as the Cubs blasted three hits, a walk and another hit for three runs before Hoyt Wil-helm came in as relief hurler. Frank Baumholtz started the attack with a single, Hermanski doubled, and Sauer singled. Toby Atwell walked to fill the bases and Dee Fondy doubled to score Hermanski and Sauer. " Wilhelm purposely walked the first man he faced, Bill Serena, and Roy Smalley singled to drive in Atwell and Fondy. Monte Kennedy worked the last inning for the Giiants. Rush went the route for the eighth time this year, striking out seven and walking one.
