— — — £tlfc andiSfc. THOMAS J. BARRY— Saddled Pensava for the latters winning effort in the I Ridgely House Purse at Delaware Park. Pensava Turns Back County Delight Odds-On Favorite Beaten One Length Gavegnano Campaigner on Top From Start to Finish In Delaware Mid-Week Test By FRED GALIANI Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 4.— An estimated crowd of 12,500 was dealt a stunning blow in the featured Ridgely House Purse today when Rokeby Stables odds-on County Delight went down to a length defeat by J. Gavegnanos Pensava. The winnerv second choice in the field of six, led from start to finish and although County Delight was severely punished, the favorite could not overhaul the leader. Two lengths back of County Delight came Mrs. E. H. Ellison, Jr.s, Sun Bahram, while Fillipo Baldis Irritate was a distant fourth. Palatial Appetite and Air Attack completed the field. Under Fernando Fernandez, Pensava traveled the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43%, only three-fifths of a second off the track mark set by Plucky Maud. Pensava was good for .60 to win, while 3,146 went down the drain on County Delight in the straight pool. Pensava, who raced in a 2,000 claiming affair at the recent Garden State Park meeting, was winning his second race in four starts this year. After failing in two races in Jersey he came back with a romping victory last week. There was a difference of three pounds between the first two horses, the winner lugging 121 to County Delights 124. For County Delight this was his third start of the season and he is still without a victory. After a poor race in the Excelsior Handicap and a fourth in the Dixie he was tried today in the Ridgely House. Off his last years form he should have romped over this field, but try as he did this afternoon he could hot catch Pensava. There is still a possibility that he will go to Suffolk Downs for the Massachusetts Handicap. Vie for Early Command County Delight was sent barreling from the gate at the start and rushed up to run on the lead, but Pensava outsped him to the first turn. Irritate was running third before Palatial Appetite, with Sun Bahram and Air Attack bringing up the rear. Around the turn and down the back side, Pensava continued to roll on, increasing his margin to five lengths, while County Delight appeared ready to strike when jockey Joe Servis called on him.." Rounding the turn, County Delight was under the whip and started to cut into Pensavas margin and as they swung around into the stretch there was only a couple of lengths between them. Fernandez went to his whip in the last eighth and it was clear that try as County Delight would he was not going to catch him at the wire. The winners margin had dwindled to a length, but he was still full of run and it might have been that the Rokeby veteran would not have caught him if they traveled another eighth of a mile. Harry Husmans Bimfort won the first of the Montchanin Handicap series with a completely facile victory over the mile and a sixteenth route. Closest to the filly, if it can be called that, somo nine lengths behind came James A. Bayards Zeeland. with Trio Stables Father Link third and S. Gottliebs Lucky Harp, fourth. Bimfort was the only miss in the field of 11 horses and was the favorite by 0 over Father Link. She paid .10 to win and ran the distance in 1:43%. Victory gave her 24 points, while those behind her picked up 12, 6 and 3 points for their efforts. The Montchanin distance will be increased with every Wednesdays running. At the end of the series the four horses that have amassed the most points split a ,500 award. 4
