Boutonniere Strives For Second Fairmount Score Accorded Edge Oyer Six Speedy Opponents in Kirkwood Purse By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARC, Collinsyjlle, 111., June 4. — The Kirkwood Purse, an allowance affair at six furlongs, will headline the eight-race program for tomorrow nights card. Seven speedy three-year-olds and "older horses have been named to contest the issue. The Kirkwood is surrounded by several other very attractive races that range in distances from four and one-half furlongs for two-year-old maidens to a mile and one-sixteenth for older horses. Boutonniere, winner of his one and only start here on opening night when he carried the silks of H. H. Haag to victory in a six-furlongs dash, looms as the main contender. He was outrun in the early stageg of his local race and being best came from behind in the final sixteenth to win by a two-length margin over the pacemaker Inky Dink, time for the six panels was 1:12 flat. The Haag speedster drops one pound off that impressive victory and should rule favorite. Apprentice E. Joyce will again pilot Boutonniere for this test. R. Byers is sending his fast Red Ginger out for the third start of this meeting to try for her first victory. The chestnut mare has run two bang-up races here and has shown marked improvement in her last out in a six furlongs dash when she was only beaten by two short noses for all the purse. The seven-year-old daughter of Pilate closed with a rush while saving ground and just missed. Tomorrow Red Ginger gets in with the feather of 99 pounds and will have apprentice J. R. Vinson in the saddle. Coming back off a winning race when she turned back Kar-Al-Ott and Red Ginger to take- a six furlongs dash in 1:12% and prevail in the last stride by a scant nose is the fleet Barbie B., from the stable of A. P. Hensley. Barbie B. also showed her fitness in the previous outing when she finished second to Desert Ruler at six furlongs, only being beaten by a length and a half over a slow racing strip. With 110 pounds up against the 113 she carried when she won she should be a real threat for the winners share of the Kirkwood Purse. The field for the Kirkwood is rounded out by other speedy sprinters in Silver Val- 1 jean, owned by D. T. Watts, J. Nobles Boy Blue, Final Leave, colorbearer from the A. Kelem Stable, and F. E. Waldrons Technicolor.
