Teddy Reigh Heads Nine In Ak-Sar-Bens Evensong Couch PerformerWon Seven Races In Row at Omaha Track Last Year By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 4.— Oren Couchs Teddy Reigh, one of the most consistent platers to perform in this sector, heads a group of intermediate claimers named to contest the Evensong Purse, nominal attraction on tomorrows twilight program here. The nine-year-old gelded son of Sun Teddy and Reigh Helen registered seven straight successes over the local strip last year before finally tasting defeat at the hands of the more formidable handicap charges on the grounds. Teddy Reigh scored an impressive victory over a shifty field of platers in his most recent start this year and he undoubtedly will rule the prohibitive post time favorite in tomorrows mile and one-sixteenth jaunt. Slated to match strides with Teddy Reigh are Louis Marchios Perfect Sweep, W. C. Mountjoys Easy Dixie, E. M. OBriens Outbird, R. A. Davis Nifty Signal, Clyde J. Carters Solid Red, Mrs. Bessie Hodges Angel Fair, Pete Bonaccis Slip-around, and Delia Shrivers Miss English. Teddy Reigh was second beaten a narrow margin in his first start of the current session, then came back to earn his initial success of the Omaha season. Lawrence Jones, who handled the veteran performer in his last winning engagement, again will be in the irons. Chief contention to the probable favorite rests upon the shoulders of Outbird, Solid Red, and Sliparound. Outbird, four-year-old son of Shut Out, won two races last year and appears to have improved slightly during the past several months. He has not been able to score here but could register his first triumph should he choose to come forth with his best efforts. . Solid Red has always displayed a decided partiality for the Ak-Sar-Ben strip and improvement from his last effort is expected. He usually comes from well back of the early pace and shouldhe be fortunate enough to remain within striking distance of the early leaders he will prove difficult to withstand when making his powerful stretch bid. Sliparound was claimed by her present owner in her last start in which she was unplaced in the race won by Teddy Reigh. She was not bested by a too decisive margin and with better racing luck must merit consideration. The remaining entrants have shown but a minimum of talent in local outings. They are receiving from nine to 19 pounds from Teddy Reigh however, and the pull in weights could prove the determining factor. Miss English in particular could upset calculations under her feathery impost of 102 pounds including the usual allowance for an as yet unnamed first year reinsman.
