John Thille Top Rider During First Week of Omaha Meeting I AK-SAR-BEN. Omaha. Nebr.. May 25.— John Thille, 16-year-old apprentice rider from Scott City, Kan., is the leading jockey at Ak-Sar-Ben at the close of the first week of the Omaha civic organizations 35-day race meeting. Thille, who has -been up on four winners, four place mounts and four show mounts, leads the rider pack with a total of 36 points. Ak-Sar-Ben awards the jockeys six points for a winner, two for a place and one for a show. Taylor Powell, Newhall, Calif., rider, is running a close second with a total of 33 points for four winners, three places and three shows. Another apprentice, 16-year-old Gerald Gardiner of Padroni, Colo., is third with 31 points. Gardiner rode his first winner on a recognized track last week, and now has been up on a total of five winners. John Bellino, apprentice rider from Walsenburg, Colo., is fourth with 29 points. John Lindquist and Gail Parker are tied for fifth; Willie Bazer, veteran Omaha jockey, is in seventh position; Richard Moore is eighth; Ralph Lilburn is ninth and George Koyk is tenth.
