N. Y. Athletic Club Day at Belmont Gloriette Goes in McNulty Handicap; Bryan G., Master Fiddle, Ancestor in Norton BELMONT PARK, Elmont. N. Y., May 25. — Tomorrow is New York Athletic Club day at Belmont Park and approximately 1,000 members will make their annual mass pilgrimage to the race track. The ,500 N. Y. A. C. John A. McNulty Handicap at a mile and one-half has attracted a field of five, headed by John W. Nizleks La-Fourche, who has been unable to find the winners circle since last fall. This feature is preceded by the ,000 Doublet Purse, in which five three-year-olds meet at six furlongs, while the seventh race is the ,000 N. Y. A. C. Norton Memorial with a field of 11 meeting at one mile. The most interesting facet of the Doublet is that it will mark the seasonal debut of Cain Hoy Stables Count Cain, a colt who gave intimations of class last year despite being unsound, and who has been training very well. There are several stakes winners in the Norton Memorial, including C. T. Chenerys Bryan G. Myhelyn Stables Master Fiddle, Ogden Phipps Ancestor and Stanley C. Mikells Brush Burn, but they all seem to have "gone, back" a bit since their best days. Mrs. E. Kendall Weils Gloriette has the best recent form of the quintet in the McNulty. After finishing fourth to Arcave at a mile and a furlong, she finished second behind the same horse at the same distance, finishing well both times. Sidney Cole will ride Jack Skirvins charge, who gets in with 109 pounds. Showed Early Speed Ogden Phipps Great Captain and L. W. Jennings Eolus are in the route event with 112 and 113 pounds, respectively and finished seventh and eighth, in that order, in their last local start. Eolus, who was making his seasonal bow, stopped badly after showing speed for six furlongs, while Great Captain, who was getting seven pounds from his rival, finished fairly well. They both finished behind Gloriette in that race. The McNulty field is completed by Florence Dellarias Harpes, who comes from a fair race in New Jersey, was behind Great Captain in his last race. Count Cain is opposed by W. Haggin Perrys speedy Reprimand, Charfran Stables Brown Booter, Belair Studs Game Chance and Phantom Farms Gideon in the Doublet Purse. Gideon won a sprint at Jamaica on May 4. Brown Booter scored a front-running victory at a mile and a sixteenth, then stopped in another won by Jamie K. Reprimand won at Jamaica, then set the early pace in the Joe H. Palmer Handicap won by Tom Fool, while Game Chance has showed little this year. Bryan G. Looms the choice in the Norton Memorial. The veteran was scratched from Saturdays Metropolitan, but has been training well since finishing second to Gay Grecque at six furlongs on May 9. His chief rivals may be Ogden Phipps Ancestor, who was a tiring third behind Arcave and Gloriette at a mile and a furlong, and C. Mahlon Klines Kaster, who comes from a clever victory over Risque Rouge at a mile and a sixteenth and drops six pounds Master Fiddle showed improvement over his Jamaica races when finishing second to Hitex at seven furlongs last out, closing with the same sort of rush that won the Wood Memorial last year.
