. — . Supreme Court to Decide If Baseball Still Sport WASHINGTON, D. C, May 25 UP. — The Supreme Court agreed today to decide whether organized baseball still is a sport or has become a business subject to anti-trust laws. The high bench accepted three appeals from baseballs so-called "reserve clause" contract under which clubs have complete control over players — to sell, transfer or drop them. The decision could affect similar contracts in professional football, basketball and hockey. Arguments in the three cases, two brought by minor league ball players and the third by a minor league club owner, will be heard when the court convenes next fall. Later, the justices will hand down a written decision. Lower federal courts have ruled that baseball is a sport and is not subject to anti-trust laws. Their decisions were based on a Supreme Court ruling by justice Oliver Wendell Holmes some 30 years ago.
