Curragh King is a candidate for the I 55,000 Arlington Classic, July 18. Others in Wallaces Care Trainer James Wallace also is conditioning Kildangen, Le Coq Hardi, Carriage 1 Trade, Ganest and Trigger Happy for Goemans and expect to add an English-bred to the string next month. While action is mounting on the training oval, Arlingtons track superintendent, Clarence Brinkman, has his crew busy conditioning the mile and one -eighth main course for the opening. During the 36-day Arlington meeting a total of 16 stakes events, representing 90,000 in added money, will be offered to horsemen. The combined Arlington -Washington meeting of 67 days will offer over ,900,000 in stakes and purses. High spots of the north suburban meeting will be the running of the Arlington Classic, 45,000 gross Arlington Futurity, 00,000 Arlington Lassie and the 5,000 added Arlington Handicap. Best known of the Calumet horses in training here is Hill Gail, winner of the 1952 Kentucky Derby. The four -year-old Bull Lea colt is a candidate for the 0,000 added Equipoise Mile to be run June 27, and the August 1 Arlington Handicap. Hill Gail has also been kept eligible for the 70,000 "Miracle Mile", the Washington Park Handicap, September 7. Bubbley in Two Stakes Bubbley has been named for both the Classic and Washington Park Handicap. At present the three-year-old miss is in the : East awaiting the Delaware Oaks and Bel- ; ! mont Parks Coaching Club American Oaks. ■ . Another Calumet sophomore, Peppy Lad, ] is also named for the Classic along with ; Chanlea. Mark-Ye-Well and Real Delight have ; been kept eligible for the "Miracle Mile." ] Mark-Ye-Well has earned 99,050 in three | J stakes victories this year, the Santa Anita | ] Handicap, Maturity and San Fernando i Stakes. i Thus far Calumet leads the nations stables in total money earned this year, i In 30 victories, 18 seconds and nine thirds, | the horses of Mrs. Gene Markey have i gathered together more than 68,000. i Eight ] of those wins were major stakes i events. Of the 10 Calumet juveniles on hand, five are candidates for the Arlington Futurity. Three of them, Commodore M., j Fleurlea and Miz Clementine, were sired by t Bull Lea. The other, Scotsmans Bond and j Turks Delight, are by Alibhai. Fleurlea and Miz Clementine are also eligible for the Lassie. Rounding out the two-year-old group are ] Bright Liberty, On Flight, Peligro, Right t Again and Spanglet. The remainder of the Calumet sophomores here are Clear Thru, ] Prince Mike/ Prospectin, Belle Nell and , Jana. Others to arrive over the week end were five j thoroughbreds owned by William Veeneman and one, Light Broom, the ] property of Harthill and Hancock. C. J.
