UNITED PRESS r NEWS BRIEFS Norse Complete Arctic Flight TOKYO, Japan, May 25.— A Norweigian DC-6B Cloudmaster arrived in Tokyo tonight, completing an Arctic exploratory flight over the top of the world from Europe to Japan. The four-engine Scandinavian airlines plane "Hjalmar Viking" landed in Tokyo after completing the last leg of its flight from Shemya in the Aleutian Islands in nine hours and 57 minutes. Taft Enters Cincinnati Hospital CINCINNATI, Ohio, May 25.— Sen. Robert A. Taft R-O. was admitted to Homes Hospital today for a check-up on a hip ailment which had previously forced him to spend four days in Walter Reed Hospital at Washington. Clark Confers With Rhee SEOUL, Korea, May 25.— United Nations commander Gen. Mark W. Clark left here for Tokyo today after conferring with South Korean president Syngman Rhee on the new UN plan for breaking the truce deadlock. Clark was believed to have urged Rhee to accept the compromise allied armistice proposal. Martin Sees Tax Program Approval WASHINGTON, D. C, May 25.— Speaker Joseph W. Martin, Jr., predicted today after President Eisenhowers weekly conference with GOP Congressional leaders that the administrations tax program will pass the house. Secretary of State Dulles in Istanbul ISTANBUL, Turkey, May 25. — U. S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles arrived here by air today from Pakistan on the next-to-last stop on his diplomatic tour of the Middle East and South Asia. Turkish authorities took extreme security precautions. Hundreds of police were at the Yesilkoy airport when Dulles, Mutual Security Administrator Harold E. Stassen and their party landed. Fail to Scale Mt. Everest KATMANDU, Nepal, May 25.— A British expedition has failed in its first attempt to reach the top of 29,002-foot Mt. C, May 25.— The Supreme Court today rejected a third appeal by atomic spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. They are awaiting death in the Sing Sing electric chair. The high bench also vacated the stay of execution that had been granted the doomed couple by the second U. S. Court of Appeals pending Supreme Court action. Charge Tax Favoritism WASHINGTON, D. C, May 25.— John W. Snyder, then secretary of the treasury, interceded with the Internal Revenue Bureau in 1950 to get a favorable tax ruling on a liquor stock deal for a big Democratic campaign contributor, House investigators charged today. Louis Johnson, who had been removed only a short time before as Secretary of Defense, also was interested in the case, a House Ways and Means Subcommittee said." Fire Atomic Artillery Shell LAS VEGAS, Nev., May 25.— America fired the worlds first atomic artillery shell today and it exploded over the Nevada desert proving grounds. The Atomic Energy Commission announced that the 44-foot, 280 milimeter cannon was fired at 11:31 A. M. E.S.T.
