► f MRS. SADIE L. FOLEY— First woman to be elected head of a state breeders association. Elect Woman Nebraska Breeders Assn. President Name Mrs. Sadie L. Foley to Post; Has Farm in Western Part of State OMAHA, Nebr., May 25.— Mrs. Sadie L. Foley, who owns a 160-acre thoroughbred breeding farm at Hay Springs, Nebr., and who has raced her stock at the annual Ak-Sar-Ben race meeting for several years, is the newly elected president of the Nebraska Throughbred Breeders Association. She is the first woman in the country to be elected to the top executive post of a state breeders association. Mrs. Foley operates the western Nebraska breeding farm with her husband, Dr. John H. Foley, a veterinarian in Hay Springs. Born and raised on her fathers Cherry County cattle ranch, she is the daughter of Dave Gourley, one of the old-time Nebraska settlers and one of the first ranchers in the vast Sand Hills country. She practiced nursing before entering the thoroughbred breeding industry 20 years ago. Mrs. Foley races her horses at four tracks each year, Ak-Sar-Ben, Hot Springs, Wheeling and Waterford. She has seven in her string at Ak-Sar-Ben. Mrs. Foley succeeds Max Towle of Lincoln as president of the Nebraska Thoroughbred Breeders Association, which was completely reorganized during last years Ak-Sar-Ben race meeting. Since its reorganization a year ago, the NTBA has been making considerable progress. Two feature attractions at Ak-Sar-Ben this year will be run exclusively for Nebraska -bred horses — the Ak-Sar-Ben Futurity for two-year-olds on Friday, June 26, and the Nebraska Breeders Special for three-year-olds on Tuesday, June 30. R. A. Leigh, director of racing, has announced that 69 horses have been nominated for the two events, an outstanding tribute to the work of the NTBA, and to the growth and interest shown in the comparatively young breeding industry in the state of Nebraska.
