Fair Sex Holding Camden Spotlight Juveniles to Seek Rancocas Tomorrow; Atalanta Tops For Colonial on Week End By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 25. — The female of the species will occupy the limelight during the climactic week of this 24-day meeting that will come to a conclusion on Saturday. Juvenile fillies will have their opportunity in the 0,000 Rancocas Stakes on Wednesday, and the more experienced three-year-olds and upward age group will seek distinction on Saturday in the 0,000 Colonial Handicap. The weights for the latter event, to be presented for its twelfth running at a distance of six furlongs, were released by racing secretary M. C. "Ty" Shea this afternoon. Darby Dan Farms Atalanta, a five-year-old daughter of Count Fleet, drew the honored position over 37 other nominees with 124 pounds. Joe W. Browns Parading Lady, a four-year-old Bernborough filly, was rated just one pound less by Shea, and Mrs. John W. Hanes Devilkin also was respectfully treated with an assignment of 120 pounds. The Rancocas, set at five furlongs for the youthful members, may also be dominated by the Ohio-owned Darby Dan Farm at post time. They have a pair of outstanding prospects in the Heliopolis filly, Clear Dawn, and the Roman filly, Ladybreath. Also nominated and possible starters are the already acclaimed Sitting Duck, owned by Alfred G. Vanderbilt; Evening Out, owned by Mrs. George D. Widener, and Wolf Gal, who races for Smith and Gottlieb. Atalanta Carries 124 The Colonial Handicap highweight honors seem deserving of Atalanta, who has already won six of her nine starts since last January. Her latest stakes triumph was in the mile and a furlong Black Helen Handicap at Hialeah, when she shouldered 123 pounds to defeat Sunny Dale and No Score. Her versatility and capability of handling the sprint distance of the Colonial was also strongly stressed when last week she ran six furlongs here in 1:11%, defeating Bobs Betty and Landmark with a 119-pound package. S. G. Millers Bobs Betty and James Cox Bradys Landmark are both expected to renew their challenge in the Colonial, while the only prominent nominee who is not expected to answer the call is Mrs. Ada L. Rices Cerise Reine, who is being pointed for a later engagement in the Delaware Oaks. Although the field is not expected to be of the proportions that it was in 1946 and 1952, when two divisions were run, the band will consist of a generous size. Among the anticipated starters are: Bobanet Stables Brazen Brat, Brookfield Farms Is Proud, Boncrist Farms Jandy, Mrs. W. Gilroys Emardee, Hal Price Headleys Recover, Mrs. S. M. Pistorios Singing Beauty, Reverie Knoll Farms Flyamanita and, possibly, last years winner of her division, Jouett Shouses Cinda. The Colonial weights follow: Horse. Wt.
