Tipster Seeking Repeat Triumph at Ak-Sar-Ben Step Alone and Double Dispose Also Factors in Roseben Purse By ART KENNEDY Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., May 25.— It will be Ladies Day at Ak-Sar-Ben tomorrow, as the Omaha civic race course heads into the second week of a meeting culminating on Independence Day. The feature event of Tuesdays eight-race program has been christened "The Roseben". for one of turfdom s all-time great "name horses. It is at a distance of one mile and 70 yards and has attracted some of the better grade platers to vie for a share of the ,100 with which it is endowed. One who has shown convincingly that he favors the Omaha oval by winning over it in his debut, is Miss Alice Likins St. Brideaux gelding. Tipster. Starting in her silks for the first time since the Oklahoma sportswoman claimed him in Chicago this spring, Tipster led all the way in last Fridays featured "Flag Lieutenant" although his margin of victory was decided by the camera. The distance of tomorrows test will be the same as then but he will pick up eight pounds over his previous effort. It is likely he will be favored by the bettors. Another certain to draw his share of public support is R. Forests Step Alone. This one finished a strongly closing third in Thursdays headliner, the Twilight Purse. While he is being raised somewhat in the claiming brackets, previous form at Oaklawn recommends him as a strong contender. Long Green, from the public stable of C. E. Brown, Jr., who runs for his trainers own account, and Safe Arrival, colorbearer of the A. and H. Stable, will have their supporters on the strength of their showing in initial starts over Ak-Sar-Ben. Also contestants in "The Twilight" both gave hint that improvement off that effort might be expected. The former was on the pace for most of the journey and tired near the end; the last mentioned showed a flash of late speed. Double Dispose won a cheap one on the second day of the current session and will be stepping up. Jerrette made his first start since 1951 in Thursdays feature. Pine River was a winner at Arizona Downs prior to shipping here and started in the "Flag Lieuatnent." Knee Hi made the pace for six furlongs in Wednesdays feature, finishing back of Teddytoi and Sergeant Ben distinguished himself last season in the colors of J. Hansell at Nebraskas lesser meetings. The first week-end program at Ak-Sar-Ben attracted the second largest crowd in the history of the track. The double Daily I Double, which developed when Captain Fay and Sax Master dead-heated in the opening event, proved highly popular with the crowd and mutuel windows did a thriving business during the balance of the afternoon. Parking lots were filled and cars diverted to the tracks centerfield used up more than half that area. The turnstile count was 12,474 and handle on eight races amounted to 38,882.
