Dr. Wright Is Victorious In Ascot Route Event Defeats Judge 0. by Almost Length; Sweep Clean Is Third By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 25. — Mrs. Ronald E. Houses Dr. Wright, five-year -old gelded son of Psychic Bid, turned in a sparling performance to take the honors in the seventh race here this afternoon. The House colorbearer, who was ridden by Norman Hart, was a stout second choice and paid .80 in spinning off the mile and one furlong in 1:58 over a track charted as being slow. Judge O. was second, beaten three parts of a length and Sweep Clean was a tiring third, another three lengths in the van. It was a summer-like afternoon and an enthusiastic crowd of 3,300 turned out to witness the nine races. Dr. Wright was first out of the gate when Eddie Anthony dispatched the field. He held to a head advantage while in along the rail on the first trip past the judges stand with Sweep Clean right alongside and Unison in third position three lengths back of the pacesetters. Those twOf continued on as a team as they sped down the backstretch, but entering the far turn, Dr. Wright drew ahead by a half length and it appeared as though the main opposition would not stem from Unison, who was moving up strongly while saving gsound. However, Unisons bid was shost-lived and he was through for the afternoon. Midway around the final turn the eventual winner drew clear by a length and Judge O. started to move up strongly while on the outside of horses. With a sixteenth of a mile left, Judge O. was rambling along picking up ground on Dr. Wright, but the winner had just a little too much left and under mild urging held sway. Apprentice Dick Westfall came through with his first victory of the meeting when he guided Gold Locket to a length and one-half verdict over Sticker Burr at the end of four and one-half furlongs. The winner returned 2.60 in accounting for the third race. The. victress went very wide at the head of the stretch and was lucky to regain the lost ground in the final sixteenth of a mile.
