PASSEMBUD was alertly handled to i establish a clear early lead, then held on tenaciously under challenges from KING BEAU in the stretch drive and gained the nod. The latter raced in close attendance to the winner, drew abreast his rival at the head of the stretch, then attempted to lug in and just missed. ASTUTE was slightly impeded by DOCTOR DICK at the far turn, then finished well and bested BUSHERS BEAM. The latter was a keen factor, appeared to momentarily sulk when punished entering the stretch, then held on well in the last stages. DOCTOR DICK was taken in hand attempting to bear out on the far turn. IFABODY lacked early speed. NO TRICKS was in close quarters -~ approaching the far turn. SECOND. RACE 6 FURLONGS out of chute. JOINER was steadied while between horsesand just behind the first flight, found an opening in the stretcrf run and then closed determinedly to be* gradually drawing away from WARMED OVER. The latter, eased back after the start, rapidly made up distance when sent forward rounding the first turn, loomed boldly from the outside in the stretch, but hung FLYING POLLY, urged to the front soon after the start, was steadied while being challenged by DING DING, therfc held on fairly well in the drive while saving all possible ground. DING DING was under hustling to briefly1 reach the front on the final turn, came slightly wide into the stretch and weakened. BIMFORT lacked a menacing rally. GAMBLER was forced to race wide. HI BILLEE was under steady pressure vying with LANDSEAIR for the pace, gradually disposed of the latter in the early stretch and, after drawing away in the final furlong, was being eased up in the last twenty yards. LANDSEAIR alertly maintained a short advantage over HI BILLEE for a little more than three furlongs, then weakened, but remained clear of the others. SAFETY gave an even performance. BAKERSFIELD did not respond when put to pressure in ..the last quarter mile. SEER was steadily urged in close pursuit of the pace, then responded to left hand punishment in the last three-sixteenths and, after wresting command, repulsed MULLY S. to draw clear. The latter was under a reserving hold while on the outside and within easy striking distance, appeared ready to take command when roused for the stretch run, but hung under his impost. NILUFER saved ground setting the pace, was under steady pressure and gave way in the stretch drive. BANJ0IST was steadied behind the first flight, then did not respond when urged. LUCKY LADY was fortunate finding room next to the rail and swiftly raced into command on the final turn, then increased her advantage under urging. PERIPOSE was moving strongly when taken in hand, being slightly crowded at the head of the stretch, then dropped over to the rail and finished gamely to hold the others safe. SCOTSTOUN was far back for a half mile, then circled out beyond the middle of the track for the drive and closed fast NIMBLE MYTH dropped back when unable to reach the pace under urging on the final turn, then held on evenly in the drive. ROB/ CRUSOE and GAY GALLANT lacked racing room inside horses in the stretch drive. ELMOS CHOICE was outrun. HOOP ROLLER and LAST BRIGADE quit.
