Slated to Accept Impost Saturday Must Concede Squared Away 13 in 0,000 Aqueduct Stake at Seven Furlongs AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 22.— Greentree Stables Tom Fool has been assigned a bulky 135 pounds for Saturdays 0,000 Carter Handicap at seven furlongs. Racing secretary John Banks Campbell estimates the Metropolitan and Suburban winner, who also won his other two starts this year, five pounds above scale at the extended sprint distance. The only other thoroughbred to win a major handicap under a similar poundage in recent years was King Ranchs Assault, who shouldered 135 pounds in the Butler Handicap of 1935 and bulled his way between Gallorette and Stymie at the finish of that mile and a quarter. The heaviest impost successfully carried in the Carter since that stake was inaugurated in 1895 is the 132 pounds packed by Joseph E. Wideners Naturalist in 1919 and Osmand in 1929. The bnly other winners to carry as much as 130 pounds were H. C. Applegates Old Rosebud and Belair Studs Apache, who carried exactly that weight in 1917 and 1945, respectively. Tom Fool carried 130 pounds in the six-furlong Joe H. Palmer Handicap and one mile Metropolitan this year, had 128 pounds up in the Suburban at a mile and a quarter. The handsome son of Menow — Gaga, by Bull Dog, is slated to carry his burden, and is training in style suggesting that it will hardly stop him. Intent on Sidelines Brookfield Farms Intent was rated second best in the Carter imposts with 126 pounds, but this son of War Relic is on the sidelines with a bowed tendon. Mrs. Jan Burkes Squared Away is next with 122 pounds, and is expected to go postward, though seven furlongs is a bit beyond his best distance; He finished unplaced behind Greentrees Northern Star last year. Har- borvale Stables Dark Peter, who finished second behind Eatontown under 121 pounds at six furlongs on Saturday, has 120 puonds in the Carter and is also pointing for the stake. Alfred G. Vanderbilts First Glance, who was a fast-finishing third behind Eaton-town and Dark Peter last Saturday, also has 120 pounds in the Carter, a shift of three Bounds aerainst him. "First m»nri» followed a similar race in the Paumonok on the first day of the season by winning the Excelsior Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth. Eatontown, who was returned to New Jersey, but may come back again to carry Mrs. Alfred Roberts silks in the Carter, gets in with 113 pounds, one less than he had last week, while F. Ambrose Clarks Tea-Maker, who finished fourth, drops six pounds to carry 117. 4 Mrs. Samuel Pistorios Tuscany, who has several fine races to his credit, as well as " a couple of bad ones, has been assigned 119 pounds, but is a doubtful starter. Mrs. Ben F.. Whitakers Hitex, beaten favorite in fche Queen Count Cap, has been given 116 pounds, but broke a bone in his foot in that race, while Vanderbilts Indian Land, who finshed second behind Flaunt, also gets 116. Last years winner, Northern Star, gets 113 pounds, two less than he had when setting the track record of 1:22 in the 1952 Carter, but has not been able to win since that brilliant performance. Vanderbilt has a third - candidate in Whither, 112 pounds, while Jim Fitzsimmons may start Belair Studs Golden Gloves, 113 and Hyphasis, 112, as well as Ogden Phipps Ancestor, 108 pounds. .
