Choices Score in Early Events at River Downs Trio of Distaff Choices Gallop Home for 4,173 Sun-Baked Fans By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 22. — The favorites marched in the early races here today* before 4,173 sun-baked fans as three choices galloped over the pasteboard track in the first four races of the afternoon. And it might be that the heat doesnt bother the ladies, for all four winners were females. A pair of- maidens departed from the ranks of the non-winners at 3 to 2 odds as valley Sprite took down the opener by better than two lengths and returned an even .00 for her maiden win. The two-year-old, Easy Belle, paid the same mutuel in. the third race of the day while holding a length and a half margin over her nearest rival. Easy Belle sped the five furlongs in 1:00 flat, which is the fastest time for the distance at this meeting. Victory Play was the only outsider who returned in the quartet of successful femmes and she has the longevity to return a more liberal price. This 13-year-old matron was three and a half-lengths clear at the end of her six furlongs sprint and going handily under jockey H. Hart. Victory Play returned 0.60 and filled out a 7.00 Daily Double. Little Willie Hubbard made it three for four for the favorites in the fourth event "of the program when he booted On Rust to a length and a half triumph while traveling the six panels in 1:11%. The grey filly was never in danger while breaking quickly to the front and the Hoosier apprentice was looking over his shoulder waiting for trouble. Hubbard was gaining the fourth saddle triumph of his budding career and On Rust paid .00.
