Two Nashua Preakness Rivals in Providence Both Saratoga and Nances Lad Nominated for Gansett Stake PAWTUCKET, R. I., June 1.— Billy Ames, Narragansett Parks publicity direc-tor„ planed to Pimlico last Saturday to witness the seventy-ninth running of the Preakness. He not only saw Nashua set a new record in a thrilling finish in this second jewel of the turfs Triple Crown but returned to his office with glad tidings for the 5,000 added Providence Stakes, one of the four rich races that will be decided at the 24-day summer meeting opening at Gansett Monday. While at the Maryland course Ames had occasion to discuss Gansetts coming meeting with many prominent horsemen. Among these were Prank Downey Bon-sal, trainer of Montpeliers Saratoga, who gave Nashua a stubborn battle for Preakness honors, and Hilton A. Dabson, trainer and co-owner of the Everglades Farms Nances Lad, fourth in the Preakness and the horse that smashed the unbeaten-record of Boston Doge. Dabson, who laughingly remarked after the running of the Preakness that he "has had enough of Nashua" assured Ames that Nances Lad is a definite nominee for the Providence Stances, mile and a furlong stake exclusive for three-year-olds uled to be decided June 22. It will make Nances Lads first New England appearance. The sophomore Slide Rule colt took the Swift Stakes at Belmont Park by five lengths, beating Informant and the previously undefeated Boston Doge. Bonsai also mentioned that he, too, has seen enough of Nashua. The Montpeller trainer has nominated Saratoga for the Providence.
