Correspon dent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 1. — Asserting herself over a field of capable two-year-old fillies, John H. "Trader" Clarks Mabe Cee qualified handsomely for the forthcoming Polly Drummond Stakes when she won this afternoons featured Myrtlewood Purse before a good mid-week turnout of 11,461. In second position, beaten a length and a half, was Stella S. Colts Snobbish, followed by I. J. Collins Mono Lady. Mabe Cee, under the handling of Walter Blum, covered the five furlongs in a speedy :59% as a .40 favorite. The victorious daughter of Fighting Step — Tiger Tillie started her campaign at Gulfstream Park with a victory over maidens and todays score was her fourth in nine starts and followed a third in the recent Rancocas at Garden State. She broke alertly this afternoon but was not hurried by Blum as Snobbish took over pacemaking duties. Mabe Cee joined Snobbish from the outside after three furlongs, was on even terms with her rival an eighth of a mile from the finish, then clearly demonstrated that she was the better filly as she steadily increased her advantage under steady urging. Favors Fast Track Snobbish, who trailed the 14-horse field which contested the Fashion Stakes at Belmont Park, evidently disliked the sloppy going which prevailed for that event for she came back with a sharp effort in the Myrtlewood. The opening quarter of 122 Vs and the half mile in :46% belonged to the Hierocles miss, but she was unable to cope -with the determined bid of Mabe Cee. Two lengths behind Snobbish- came Mono Lady while there was another gap of a length and a half to Larry MacPhails Victory Medal, a high-priced yearling acquisition who had won her only previous outing. Completing the field were Brandy-wine Stables Catchpenny, Circle M. Farms Trojan Lady and -Beverly Brouns Lancaster Rose. The last-named filly is the only member of the field who is not eligible for the Polly Drummon, which is also at five furlongs and carries added money of 0,000. Mrs. Priscilla M. Mitchells Hoplite gained victory in the first of five races which make up the Montchanin Handicap Series. The equestrian eight-year-old circled the leaders entering the stretch and was an easy winner by two and one-half lengths while completing the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45 y5. Hoplite paid .80 as the favorite, while Frank OKeefes My Truly Fair and Elkcam Stables G-Two gained the remaining portions of the purse. John Choquette, My Truly Fairs rider, claimed foul against Hoplite and Norman Cox, who rode G-Two, claimed foul against My Truly Fair. The pictures, however, revealed to the stewards that the offender in early-stretch crowding was Beacon •Stables The Posse, who was disqualified after having finished third. Willie Hartack, who booted home 46 winners in 25 days at Garden State, but who was beaten astride four favorites here yesterday, finally made the grade in todays fourth race. The nations second leading rider had his mount home by a nose over Wayne Kendricks Miss Tacaro, while Keystone Stables Harbash was third. The winner was a liberal .20 -favorite and was timed in 1:11% for the six furlongs.
