Nine Face Dogoon in Detroit Dash MRS. LOTTIE WOLF— Owner of Clamor who is entered in the Ionia Lions Purse at Detroit today. l 1 Offer Best Card Of MRA Meeting Clamor Expected to Furnish Drake Homebred With Most Opposition in Ionia Lions By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 1. — E. Gay Drakes Dogoon, stakes-winning homebred son of The Doge and Swoon, heads a field of 10 quick three-year-olds scheduled to meet here" Thursday afternoon fh the Ionia Lions Purse, top attraction on the best program of the Michigan Racing Association current season. Trainer A. G. Wilson, of the Drake and Buhl stables, claimed the apprentice allowance for his charge, who will go to the post under 117 pounds. Dogoon, who made his three -year-old debut recently at Churchill Downs, met defeat by Mrs. A. M. Creechs Styrunner in an overnight dash but his handlers have repeatedly expressed the opinion that the colt was in need of the race. The Drake-runner was the top juvenile of the 1954 Motor City season and compiled earnings of 5,995 in his first year of competition. Providing he starts Thursday, Dogoon will undoubtedly be post-time choice for the Livonia Stakes. Major opposition for Dogoon may be furnished by Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Clamor, a handsome gray son of Talon and Shout About. The Motor City-owned colt turned in several sharp performances in Florida during his winter campaign and he finished second to Red ODonnell here May 24 in the three-quarters mile Northwest Purse. Clamor, none too partial to an "off" track, bowed to the Lancaster and White-owned Red ODonnell on a heavy strip. Under the conditions of the Thursday feature, he will be one of the starting high-weights at 119 pounds unless the apprentice allowance is waived on Dogoon arid Carroll Bierman draws the mount on the latter. Wagner to Saddle Entry Charles F. Wagner will send out an entry in the Ionia Lions, Jef Morsberger, 119, and Ocala Gal, 105 pounds, property of the Reiber and Wagner partnership. Jef Morsberger captured the Straits Purse here the second day of the meeting, turning that six furlongs in 1:11 while shouldering 1.16 pounds. Jockey Leroy Pierce will be up on either, Jef Morsberger or Ocala Gal in the feature. * Jef Morsbergers success in the Straits Purse came about at the direct expense of Max Zipkins Gay Warbler, a daughter of Double Jay and Nats Reward, a half length separating them at the wire. The Zipkin filly holds a "one-four-four" record thus far this year and her recent morning trials have, been on the- quick side. Others expected to "start in the Ionia Lions are T. A. Grissoms Tonsina, 117; P. C. Kroneman and Sons Early Foot, 110: Grace Kosibas Rigolade, 100; Mrs. H. Johnstons Chic Devil, 109, and Mr. and Mrs. R. Evys Newate, 115. Tonsina will be handled by Bobby Baird, Sammy Williams rides Clamor, Lois Cook is named for Early Foot and Evan Jenkins will be up on Rigolade. Sherman Armstrong is engaged for Gay Warbler, apprentice Johnny Sellers on Chic Devil, while Dudley Vanden-borre drew the riding chore for Newate, slated to make her first start of the local season. Marion H. Vanberg, Nebraska horseman, will be represented by Set Shot and Endon in the Northwest Dentists Puise, chief supporting offering on the Thursday card.. The Tamarack stable will rely on Reb-Misha and Runacross in the six furlongs condition event while Mrs. George C. Whites hard-charging Nocallula and Cols Daughter make up another entry, capable of picking off major honors. Bee Tee Stables Bettys Beauty and W. W. Waters Bea Marony complete the likely overnight starting band for the secondary number.
