BLACK POPPY headed the field on the outside at the end of the first quarter, and then drew out, but was required to withstand a determined bid from TEXAMILO in the stretch. TEXAMILO moved up strongly after entering the stretch but was unable to head the leader. TASK FLEET was never too far removed and finished steadily. GOLDEN. APOLLO also went-fairly well. RESIGNED made up some ground on the outside. LOCKS broke well but was unable to keep up. The latter was well up from the start and finished fairly well, but did not seriously threaten the winner. JO-CLARE finished fastest of all. JUDY ROUNDERS made up some ground. AGNES LYNN soon got to the front and, shaking off OTROON, was well-rated to withstand a stretch challenge from MAID OF COTTON and held her at the end. MAID OF COTTON moved up on the outside of the leader in the stretch and appeared to be equal with her about midstretch. MIGHTY TOM was going well at the end. SUPER SUE weakened after moving up in the stretch. DEBBIE ANN, outrun early, finished fairly well. ANGELS DOLL went very wide in the stretch.- TEN LIES tired after going • a half mile. ALSAB ACE was outrun to the stretch, then moved up behind horses to reach a strong position and steered to the outside in the final * sixteenth, and wore down the leaders to win going away. JUDGE BROWDEE displayed good speed from the i1 ft5r j"31111 °" ab°ut equal terms with DEMREE all through the final eighth, outfinished the latter. - DEMREE had the most early speed and held on well after being headed. LUCKEY PETE was close enough throughout, but lacked much power in the final drive. AMAWALK was always outrun.. TOP TRAFFIC, shook off ROYAL BRED around the far turn and opened up a good lead which he increased in the last furlong and was going easily in hand coming to the end. BIG SWIV was outrun to the stretch, then came wide but finished strongly. MAZZA was close enough early and, while not dangerous, finished steadily. JET STREAM made up some ground. BLUE CHOIR raced under restraint close to the pace * for half the distance, then moved into command to open up a good lead nearing the stretch turn and increase his margin after entering the stretch, but was shaken up nearing the finish when DANCE NSING challeged. The latter set the early pace and dropped backto third place after being headed, then came again in the stretch and x«wn?-onin9 ri?pidly °" the winner- GUY showed good speed for six furlongs, then began to weaken. BLUE AMBER was close enough for three quarters, then began to tire. SALMON PETER was always outrun in a very ordinary effort. ORIENTAL SPRING was far back throughout and probably needed the race.
