Veterans of Belmonts 1905 Meet Wideners Guests at Track Party BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 1.— As part of the festivities in connection with Belmont Parks current golden anniversary meeting, president George D. Widener today played host to a group of trainers, jockeys, track employes and newspapermen who had been active at the time the beautiful track opened its gates on May 4, 1905. The veteran guests" were James Fitzsimmons and his son John, George "Slim" Sully, ex-jockey Frank ONeill, Eddie Hodgson, William Travers, Mortimer Murphy, Clem McCarthy, J. J. Walsh, John J. Coakley, Cornelius V. Boyle, J. J. Burns, Frank Ortell, Harry Reubens, George M. Odom, Preston Burch, Tommy Queen, R. V. Boyle, Willie Knapp, Terry Farley, Roy Chisholm, Mickey Miles and Edward P. Farrell. Morty Murphy rode two winners on opening day here 50 years ago, while J. J. Burns rode the last winner that day.
