Galbreaths Swaps, the hero of many thrilling triumphs at Hollywood Park, will be signally honored by Daily Racing Form near the scene of his greatest victories on June 11 when Ellsworth receives the 10th annual Horse of the Year painting from J. Samuel Perlman on behalf of this newspaper, of which he is editor and publisher. The presentation will be made at a dinner given by Daily Racing Form in the Crystal Ballroom of the Beverly Hills Hotel during the convention of the National Association of State Racing Commissioners in Los Angeles. All of the commissioners attending their annual conclave and numerous other persons prominent. in thoroughbred racing will be present at the dinner. First California Horse Honored Swaps, voted Americas outstanding race horse of 1956 in the annual poll conducted by Daily Racing Form, is the first California horse to receive such laurels. He is also the first horse to be honored since the presentation of the paintings was instituted in 1947 whose owner is not a member of The Jockey Club. For the purpose of the presentation, Ellsworth, who bred the five-year-old son of Khaled — Iron Reward, is to be considered the sole owner. Galbreath bought a half-interest in Swaps late last summer and the colts first race under the partnership banner was to have been in the United Nations Handicap at Atlantic City. Swaps, who is presently in stud after his widely-publicized leg fracture last October, is the worlds fourth leading money-winning thoroughbred, with total earnings of 48,900. Nashua. Citation and Stymie are the first three. In 14 starts as a two. three and four-year old at beautiful Hollywood Park, he won 10 times. Ran Mile in 1:33! 5 It was at Hollywood, on June 9. that Swaps set a worlds record for the mile — 1:33%. He also set a worlds record for the mile and one-sixteenth at Hollywood Park last June 23 — 1:39. On July 4, again at Hollywood, he equaled the worlds standard for a mile and one-eighth held by Noor and Alidon» and tied this year by Gen. Duke. 1:43%, and it was at Hollywood that he set a worlds record for a mile and five-eights on July 25— 2:38 3. All of these records were set under the steadying imposi of 130 pounds, except for his mile record, when he carried 128. Swaps, who broke his maiden in his first race at Hollywood on May 20. 1954, has an overall record of 19 wins in 25 starts and was in the money on 23 occasions. He received 20 votes as Horse of the Year in Daily Racing Forms 1956 poll as against 12 for his arch-rival, Nashua, and one for Needles.
