Fonner Park to Present Program of Nine Races Eight Sprinters Will Parade Postward in Sandhillo Purse By DEAN WILLIAMS FONNER PARK, Grand Island, Nebr . May 10.— Nine races will be presented at Fonner Park Saturday. The six-furlong eighth will be the feature offering of the afternoon and has been titled the Sandhillo Purse, in honor of the half-mile track at nearby Alliance.. The first field will go to the post at 2:30 p.m. CST. The Sandhillo Purse drew a -well-matched field of eight middle-class sprinters to vie for the ,000. Bird Shooter. Scomber, Cordon Bleu, Callaway and Airway are all winners at the current meeting. The others entered are Naprika, Vohn and T-Town Express. Bird Shooter, who was claimed his last out by his present owner, Jim Romjue, is making his first apperance since breaking, the six and one-half furlong track record. The speedy son of Crap Shooter and Sage Bird gained a nose decision in that winning effort and covered the distance in l:193k. The mark has since been broken, but his performance in that start must be considered one of the best of his racing career. J. L. Klesners Scomber turned in a much improved effort in his last out to defeat Ray Danners Don Sol over a track classed as slow. The track should be in an "off" condition for Saturdays program and this may enhance the chances of the Kles-ner colorbearer.
