Y., May 10.— Mrs. Jules Schwartz Nah Hiss earned his way to the Preakness today when he won the Sunken Meadow Purse, a ,500 event at a mile and a furlong that was the richest on the Jamaica program, though carded as the fourth event. Bobby Ussery, who was completing a double, piloted the bay son of Call Over from Waymark. by Nedayr. who was bred by his owner, and hanrode him to the finish a half length before Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Promised Land. It was 11 lengths back to Cain Hoy -Stables Lucky Dip, who led Anthony J. Ryans pacemak-ing Big Paddy another six lengths. Nah Hiss, who was scoring his third straight, paid .20 and was timed a modest 1:51. A crowd of 19,267 turned out to view the sport on a pleasant afternoon. After the race, the elated Mr. Schwartz said that the colt would be sent to Pimlico on Monday and added that Ussery had told him that he only used his whip once, getting an immediate response, then was satisfied to handride the rest of the way. While Lucky Dip broke in a tangle, Big Paddy went to the front, followed by Promised Land. Who took command in the backstretch. Nah Hiss trailed until roused nearing the final bend, passed Promised Land just inside the furlong pole, taking the half length lead that he retained. Ussery made it three saddle victories for the afternoon when he steered N. I. Asiels Bit-O-Sport to a front-running score over Towson Town and Bushers Choice in the sixth race. Full brothers to Bold Ruler and Misty Morn. Nasco and Misty Flight, made their debuts in the Wheatley Stable silks in the third race. The entry was backed down to 55 cents on the dollar but could finish no better than second and third behind Harry L. Koplins Florida -bred Net Ball, a son of the German Samurai, from Cutie, by Pilate. Net Ball won the dash, all the way, by two and a half lengths over Nasco, who felt the sting of Ted Atkinsons whip repeatedly and on both flanks, but without responding. Misty Flight, who was given much less punishment by Sidney Cole, was two lengths farther back, and the same margin before Medilex Farms Marjos Duke. Hed-ley Woodhouse rode Net Ball, who paid 3.40 and was teletimed in 1:00%. J ! ! 1 j I j
