Open Beulah Park Meet With Card of Nine Races Limit Field Seeking Inaugural; Stanley C, Mintaway Compete By PAT CAUDILL BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 10. — Robert J. Dienst, president and general manager of this one mile Ohio oval, will play host to what can be expected to be an all-time record opening-day crowd as the Beulah Park gates are swung open tomorrow for -the commencement of a 19-day meeting which will continue through June 1. Racing secretary Owen E. Pons and his assistants have been on hand for several weeks and with the preliminary work put away, closing of entries this morning was promptly and smoothly done with the results being a well-balanced nine-race card headed by the Inaugural Purse. This allowance affair for three-year-olds and upward drew a capacity field of 12 starters with four of them appearing as also eligible. The event; to be contested from the six-furlong chute, will be offered as the eighth race and offers a purse of ,000. W. L. Mintaway is slated to cany 117 pounds in the event he goes postward and will be ridden by John Tracey. He merits top consideration over his rivals having finished second in a dead heat in his last outing, a recent test at Laurel. Also appearing on the also eligible list are two other sharp threats. In the event they are permitted race A. M. Holmans four-year-old Fabucon will be ridden by John Juarez and M. K. Essigs Crips Sonny will have Norman Hart as the pilot. Both of these runners are weighted with 114 pounds and the remaining also eligible is C. B. Suttons Rose Lane, with William Hubbard as the rider and the light impost of 103 pounds. Of the scheduled starters, top ranking goes to Earl Sorber*s Stanley C, to be ridden by Paul A. Ward who led the riders I here last fall, and weighted at 111 pounds. He seeks his fourth victory of the year having won a claiming event and two starter-allowance affairs at Sunshine Park. The Sorber representative cannot expect to find things too easy as he will be asked to turn back such as L. T. Schavels hard-hitting Longstreet, R. E. Wales Drogheda, T and P Larcombs Chin Chin and C. L. Crays Autumndalr. Others in Line-up The balance of the field includes Mrs. L. Frys Best Air, Mr. and Mrs. W. Kellers Star Marque, Willianv J. Greens Nordic Lad, Mr. H. Gross and Mrs. D. W. Hess i Pan American, E. M. Schmitts Pecan, R. J." Hamon and L. Christmans Victory Blood and D. Schmidts Speed Wrinkle. Pons has also carded the Grove City Purse, a starter-allowance event as the sixth race and this affair will be contested at the same distance as the Inaugural being designed for four-year-olds and upward. Ably assisted by C. K. Keller, track superintendent, and heads of various departments, Dienst, Columbus businessman as well as master of River Divide Farm, is pleased to the fullest by the readiness of the plant along with its new look headed by the new administration building and paddock enclosure. Post time for the first race has been set for 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Eight races will be presented with the exception of Wednesdays and Saturdays when nine will be offered. Daily Double wagering will be conducted on the first and second events each day.
