k lg h _ ;e ?s f- | Eight Go in Hamiltons I Cincinnati Handicap Terry Mine Seeks Third Triumph Of Meet; Jauntstown Main Threat By A. L. SHIELDS I HAMILTON, Ohio, May 10.— The third Saturday of this meeting will feature the Cincinnati Handicap, a race for three-year-olds and upward which will be contested over one mile and one-sixteenth. It is scheduled as the eighth event and ought to prove interesting to the onlookers in that of the six runners which have accepted the I weights racing secretary Ed Brennan assigned them five are winners here. Mrs. Margaret Troianis Terry Mine is I a two-time victor during the current session. Last Saturday he posted a win over the mile and a sixteenth distance in 1:48% to equal the performance of Wilda who established the standard on July 7, 1942. Terry Mine has the top impost of 121 pounds, which is four more than the son of Garden Message carried in the race in which he equaled the track record. Terry Mine will match strides with such good ones as Miss Judy Langs Jauntstown and W. E. Turners Lalou. Jauntstown demonstrated his prowess with two consecutive victories and but for a disqualification on opening day would now be the only three-timer on the j grounds. The six-year-old son of Johnstown posted both of his wins over six and one-half furlongs but his strong finishes indicate he favors a route. Jauntstown hung up one of the easiest wins here on May 3, when he galloped down to the wire nine lengths on top in 1:22%. The bay-gelding came back to prove he can close 5 well when he caught Al Spares Joes Miss by a nose last Wednesday to win the Norwood Purse under a clever ride by Willie Cuvtin. The time was 1:22* 5. LaLou has 5 posted contrasting victories, both, coming under the able guidance of jockey George Parra. The seven-year-old mare went a mile and one-sixteenth in 1:50% on May 1 0 after having taken a six and one-half furlongs decision in 1:22% on April 27. LaLou likes to race forwardly and Parra has the know-how to put her there. Whether she 0 will stay is a moot question. The C and E Estridge and B. W. Johns colorbearer Prairie Pearl wont be overlooked in the wagering. This Busyridge off- • spring found the winners circle here on May 1, when she took down thef ront end •r of the Hyde Park Purse over a mile and one-sixteenth in 1:49%. Happy East, owned ~ and trained by Danny Ryan, came home a winner last Tuesday finishing in 1:25% over a distance of about seven furlongs. The ten-year-old gelding might surprise in this one but it will take a bit of doing to make it so. Sure Quis completes the field and is a first-time starter at this course this year. Owned by H. R. Prewitt and H. G. Mullins, the five-year chestnut mare won at Sunshine Park last winter but may be in need of a race over this track before running back to that winning effort.
