Sportsmans Sportsmans Attracts Attracts Speed Speed Rouser; Rouser; Dozen Dozen Clash Clash in in Louisville Louisville Handicap Handicap Weight Sea O Erin, Star Rover Equally Grissom Sends Out Trio in Invalidate, Big Sweep and Shan Pac for Downs Stakes By DON FAIR CHURCHILL DOWNS. Louisville. Ky.. May 10.— Hasty House Farms Sea O Erin and Mrs. Irving Gushens New England invader, Star Rover, head a field of 12 crack middle distance performers slated to meet here Saturday afternoon in the 15th renewal of the 0,000 Louisville Handicap. Sea O Erin and Star Rover are equally weighted for the mile and one-sixteenth stakes at 120 pounds. Vester R. Wright, currently leading Churchill Downs trainer, named three members of the Detroit-owned T. Alie Grissom stable for the week-end feature. Wright will tighten the girths on Invalidate. 114; Big Sweep. 110, and the three-year-old Kentucky Derby starter, Shan Pac, pegged at 106 pounds. The Tennessee turfman announced early today that top reinsman Johnny Ralph Adams will have the mount on one of his Louisville Handicap hopefuls, Hasseyampa Carries 115 Others expected to answer "Boots and Saddles" are Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Homeplace, 104: Theodore D. Alie Grissom three-year-old meets older horses in the Louis-cille Handicap at Churchill Downs today. — — — Sea O Erin Vies With Star Rover Co-Topweighrs at Churchill Among Dozen Entrants for 0,000 Louisville Handicap Continued from Page One Johnny Adams rides Dark Toga and Lois Cook will be astride Munchausen. Sea O Erin, a six-year-old Shannon n.-sired stallion, probably will be the Louisville Handicap post time choice. The Mr. and Mrs. Alie Reuben-owned stalwart, good winner of five starts last year and earnings of 24,680, is at peak form. He was a close second to Bandit in the six furlongs Phoenix Handicap and placed behind Star Rover in the Ben Ali. In his only start here, Sea O Erin was but a half-length back of Swoons Son in the seven furlongs Churchill Downs Handicap. Partial to the longer routes, the distance of the Louisville will be advantageous to Sea O Erin, rated the one to beat Saturday. Star Rover, a homebred five-year-old son of Flushing II. and Miss Moonbeam, equaled Keeneland s Beard Course track record of 1:25% in annexing the Ben Ali. He was a good class winner of several major engagements last year and he ran fifth in the Churchill Downs May 2 after encountering mild interference during the stretch run. The Gushen representative trained well for his Louisville engagement but it is doubtful if he has the stamina to down Sea O Erin. Invalidate, Bernburgoo, Hasseyampa and Full Flight were under silks in the Churchill Downs Handicap. Invalidate was a hard-charging third, beaten less than a length, while Bernburgoo ran fourth with Hasseyampa fifth. Full Flight, winner of the A. B. Letellier Memorial Handicap in New Orleans last February and successful in an overnight event at Keeneland before transfer here, failed to race to his best form in the local stakes and did no better than 10th. Munchausen Impressive Winner Last Out Munchausen, a five-year-old Mighty Story stallion, was a mildly surprising victor last Tuesday in the Swigert Purse. He stepped that mile in 1:36%, reaching the wire with a length margin on Invalidate, while Precious Stone was along for third and Bernburgoo wound up fifth. The Roth-more Farm star, successful in five of eight engagements this year, is perhaps one of the most improved racers on the grounds and diminutive jockey Ccjok, second in the local riding standings, certainly assures him capable handling. Major supporting offerings on the Saturday program, one of the best of the spring session, are the Triumph Purse, a five furlongs dash for two-year-olds, and the Whiskery Purse at six furlongs for four-year-olds and upward. The Gushen stables Bumpy Road, who set a new track record in annexing Keene-lands Lafayette Stakes; Ernest H. Lanes Margaretta, romping winner in the Debutante Stakes, and Clifford Lusskys Casting, Singing Tower Stakes heroine, are rated tops in the field of 11 youngsters. Walmac Farms Vagabond King, a recent visitor to the local winners ring; Baylor Hickmans Royal Jester and Vaya Con Dios; the Grissom duo, Thievery and By Far, and Lane Stables Brujaria appear well placed in the Whiskery.
