May 10.— After the earthquaking events leading up to the Derby, news on the Preakness front today seemed prosaic but for the records the day was punctuated by a the arrival of Cliff Lusskys Federal Hill from Louisville: b» definite word that Wheatley Stables Bold Ruler will arrive from Aqueduct at 8 p.m. Saturday, and c trainer Woody Stephens inclination to start both Cain Hoys One-Eyed King- and Lucky Dip in next Saturdays classic. Federal Hill, who blazed the trail for a full mile in the Derby, arrived on the hilltop at 6 a.m. after an uneventful 21 hours van junket from Churchill Downs. He was accompanied here by Dr. Robert W. Cope-Ian, who describes the brown son of Cosmic Bomb as a "wonderful shipper." "He didnt give us any trouble at all," Dr. Copelan said as he supervised bedding down the Louisiana Derby winner in barn J., where he has Calumets Iron Liege, his nemesis of the Derby, as a neighbor. Other Preakness candidates expected to arrive within the next few days will be in residence in this cool, restful bam near the half-mile pole on the backstretch. As you might imagine, this stable is as accessible as the U.S. mint. Arriving in the van with Federal Hill was Mrs. Edna Veenemans Woodlawn. who is an invader for the 0,000 added Black Eyed Susan for three -year-old fillies next Wednesday. The youthful Copelan flew to Washington Park this afternoon, leaving Federal Hill in the solicitous care of Wil-lard Pimkston, who doubles in brass as the colts groom and exercise boy. Stanley Rieser, who is trainer Milton Riesers son, will reach here Sunday and the elder Rieser arrives sometime Preakness week. -- Federal Hills arrival seems to assure a realistic pace in the upcoming Preakness, for even Plain Ben Jones doubts if there is a horse in America who has more sheer zip away from the gate. Further, it is theorized that the mile and three-sixteenths route of the second leg of Americas Triple Crown, and the comparatively short home stretchy may find Federal Hill a more formidable factor than he was at Louisville, especially if the track is muddy. The Lussky colt will walk tomorrow, then gallop on Sunday, according to Copelan. Jockey Willie Carstens, his regular pilot, will come to Pimlico next Tuesday, swinging into action immediately, so that he should be thoroughly acquainted with the Continued on Page Forty-Eight , ■ [ [ [ [ L L I L j Federal Hill at Pimlico To Fill Preakness Role Bold Ruler Due This Morning; Cain Hoy to Start Pair in Event Continued from Page Three conformation and texture of the Preakness course. Bold Ruler, who runs in the Preakness Prep on Monday, is to be accompanied here by foreman Bart Sweeney and Gray Phan-l torn, who is eligible for the 5,000 added Mr. Fitz Handicap on the Preakness Eve program. Pimlicos executive director Lou Pond-| field has advices from "Woody" Stephens that Harry Guggenheim is "seriously considering" sending both One-Eyed King and Lucky Dip in the Preakness. Jockey Pete Anderson will have the riding assignment if One -Eyed King fills his engagement in next week ends 00,000 run. I . I B s i B t n
