Jockey Sherman Armstrong Has Four Winners on Downs Card Gains Surprise Tally With Tournure in Old Guard Purse For Mrs. J. M. Branham Barn By DON FAIR CHUPvCHILL DOWNS. Louisville, Ky.. May 15.— Mis. John If. Branhams Tournure and jockey Sherman Armstrong shared the spotlight here this summerlike afternoon before .a good mid-week gathering of more than 7,500 spectators. Jockey Armstrong handled his fourth winning mount of the matinee, hustling Tournure to a length and one-quarter victory in the six furlongs Old Guard Purse. - Tournure. a four - year - old homebred daughter of Condiment and Tour, was under strong pressure through the stretch to withstand Rebel Stables hard-charging Super Devil, who was another length and one-quarter before H. L. Freyns Floridian, early leader. Seven shifty sprinters met in the Old Guard and Zimmerman Stables Mr. Crooner saved fourth. Under the Old Guard conditions, Tournure shouldered 119 pounds. She handled her weight in cereditable fashion while stepping the three-quarters mile over the fast track in 1:121-.. Tournure, who raced in good company during her last two seasons, was making her first appearance this year. She was overlooked by the majority in the tote and those backing her received 9 to 1. Ressa Bob Beats Entry-Mate Jockey Sherman Armstrong, of Greenville. Ky.. handled his third successful mount on the mid-week card, hustling H. H. Mundys Ressa Bob to a half length verdict over his stable companion and entry-mate. J. H. Homans Don Melody, in the Dark Star Purse. Clifford Lusskys favored Trading, pacemaker during the earlier stages of the six-furlong sprint, lasted for third, two and one-half lengths back of the lapped leaders and a head in advance of Whitt and Blaus Trico. Henry Forrest saddled Ressa Bob and Don Melody for their "one-two" punch and the victor raced the three-quarters mile in 1:11%. The Mundy and Homan entry was second choice in the tote at 16-to-5. Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Wise Pop, a six-year-old Pavot-sired gelding, beat eight rivals in the seven furlongs Zev Purse. Wise Pop spotted each entrant weight at 122 pounds and. responding well to Johnny Rotz good handling, reached the final marker with a three and one-half lengths margin over John M. Harts hard-hitting Able Ladd. C. T. Chrons Miss Questuary finished third another two lengths away, while Elias Brothers June Bug was along to salvage fourth money. Wise Pop. successful in two Florida engagements before transfer to Kentucky, raced the seven-eighths mile over the firm strip in 1:25. He was second choice in the wagering at 14-to-5. I. J. Collins Billys Best, with Jack Skelly at the reins, defeated a capacity field of juveniles in the five-furlongs third race. The Collins colt took an early lead and then held on well enough through the stretch for a length and one-half verdict over Hasty House Farms King Hopeful. Mrs. June L.
