JO DAVIS went to the front at once and showing good speed appeared to bear out slightly on RARE VINTAGE when challenged by the latter in the last furlong and lasted to score narrowly. RARE VINTAGE moved up on the outside of the leader in the stretch and going gamely to the end just missed. PAULA made up some ground in the stretch and was gaining. VARSITY showed speed in spots but seemed difficult for his rider to handle. HIGH AUTHORITY and CYNTHIA SUE were in close quarters right after the start. STIPEND tired. ENCONO opened up a good lead on the backstretch and was easily best of the others. C0MM0D0N was closest to ENCONO in the early running and weakened. BOLD X. was badly outrun. LAUREL KING tired.
