Ascot Runs 0,000 Gold Cup Saturday Race Restricted to Horses Who Have Raced Over Route at Meet ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. May 15. — One of American racings best known "smaller track" handicaps, the 0,-000 Ascot Gold Cup at two miles, comes up for decision here Saturday. The Ascot Gold Cup is for three-year-olds and upward that have started at this meeting at one-mile and nine-sixteenths or over with preference in the drawing going to winners, seconds and thirds in the marathon events. Twelve will start in competition for the 0,000 purse and the Gold Cup that awaits the winner. Of the 24 horses that have earned preference for the Gold Cup to date, seven seem to rate principal attention. They are: Harry Husman, Potato Chip Farm gelding trained by Benny Myres: Hi Acres Farms Phala Man, trained by Jimmy King; Sent Back, trained by J. Pasquale; War Finish, six-year-old chestnut gelding by War Jeep owned by J. J. Graham and trained by L. B. Brown; Lethnot, trained by C. A. Cranford, Millcamp, Landable and Setubal. Harry Husman has had two wins and one second at the mile and nine-sixteenths I Gold Cup qualifying distance in four starts and turned in the fastest time for the route at 2:4225. Phala man won lost Saturday, negotiating the distance in 2:45 in the mud. Sent Back won twice at one mile and nine-sixteenths here and War-Finish has had three wins in earning a spot in the 12-horse Gold Cup field here Saturday. and Jones wishes him under his wing at Garden State Park with the bulk of his current stock. A thorough check-up will be given Gen. Duke and if the result meets with Jones approval he will make the short haul to the Camden track, where a series of X-rays will be taken. The future racing plans of the Calumet three-year-old are conjecture, but there remains the possibility he may be ready to go postward in the 0,000 added Jersey Stakes here on May 25.
