Manteau Has Four Balmoral Rivals Finished Third Last Out in Blue Grass Takes On Celestino R., Ole Rob, Rajputana; Mt. Olivet Likely Sceneshifter Choice WASHINGTON PARK. Homewood, HI.. May 15. — Louis Lee Haggin II.s Manteau, who last time out finished third in the Blue Grass Stakes, heads a field of five three-year-olds in Thursdays ,000 Bunting Purse, best race on Balmorals eight-race bill at Washington Park. Opposing the Citation offspring, who debuted here last year during the regular Washington Park meeting in the six-furlong dash are D. R, Loughters Ole Rob. Sunny Blue Farms Rajputana, H. J. Bianco and Mrs. L. J. Roberts Celestino R., and Wilson and Mc-Dermotts Colonel Zero. The Bunting is billed as the fourth race. Occupying the regular featured spot, the sixth race, Thursday, is the Sceneshifter, ,000 seven furlongs sprint also for three-year-olds. A field of seven, headed by O. S. Demings Mt. Olivet, a winner last out at Churchill Downs, was named overnight. Others are Gems Baby, French Coat. Cresswood Susie, Mr. J. D., and the entry of Mr. Donmar and Free and Busy. Beat Boone Blaze at Keeneland Manteaus Blue Grass performance indicated much improvement for the colt. In the Kentucky event. Manteau dogged the pace set by Round Table and One-Eyed King, and moved within three lengths of the winner at the eighth pole in the mile and one-eighth race, only to fail to carry through. A week earlier Manteau galloped home a five-length winner in a Keeneland seven-furlong sprint, turning back Calumet Farms Boone Blaze anions nine opponents. Colonel Zero was throttled somewhat last out from keeping up his in-the-money 1957 record. The Nirgal colt ran seventh in a Churchill Downs sprint two weeks ago won by Aberion. Earlier, Colonel Zero hung up a victory and a pair of seconds in a three-race Fair Grounds campaign. Rajputana has started 13 times without success, although his latest outing last month at Gulf stream Park found him second, beaten less than a length by Inside Tract at one mile and 70 yards. He has been competing against capable runners all winter and during the spring. Celestino R. comes off a second to Mr. Bruce in a Sportsmans Park allowance sprint last week, the ninth start this season for the Fighting Fox gelding and his fourth time in the money. He has been a winner twice, once at Sportsmans, and last January at Hialeah. Ole Rob is another who has been keeping company with top-flight three-year-olds in three 1957 outings, latest of which was good for third behind Mt. Olivet and Bonjo at Churchill Downs. He failed in his first two attempts this campaign.
