POPLAR BRANCH outsprinted his opposition from the start, saved ground and was all out to stall off the belated bid of VAN DRIVER. The latter, unprepared at the start, failed to settle in stride until going a half mile and, then, while advancing along the inside, finished full of run to appear as if he were much the best. JAY RAN faltered after forcing the issue to the early stretch. BOB MORROW was never a factor. TRUMP REWARD came back lame following a dull performance. Scratched— 14206 Lovely Irene, 113. CABLE JACK lacked early speed, swung exceedingly wide when rallying on the final turn, responded to urging in the stretch and wore down FIDDLIN" SON a sixteenth out. The latter engaged JACKIE VAN from the outside early, put that one away after going a quarter mile, drew clear and, under pressure, succumbed readily to the winner. OIL BURNER saved ground while advancing and could not seriously threaten. BIG FINALE was used up in vying for the early lead. BRONZE AGE was always outrun. PARADISE PEAK, hustled away from the gate while lugging in, gradually drew clear on the turn and was ridden out to hold GANG NEWS safe. PARADISE PEAK was disqualified and placed second for interfering with the runner-up shortly after the start. GANG NEWS, forced to take up sharply when the winner came over shortly after the start, improved his position steadily when straightened away to be easily best of the others. MARJOS DUKE was forwardly placed to the early stretch where he flattened out when set down for the drive. INCITATUS swerved sharply to the inside at the start and passed only tiring horses. HAPPY PRINCESS had speed from the start, displaced MYRTLES JET for the lead soon after leaving the tackstretch, drew clear, attempted to bolt on entering the stretch, relinquishing command, rallied gamely when straightened away to come again and prove narrowly best. JET GIRL, slow to settle in stride, was wisely brought to the inside on the final turn to move up fast and, under pressure, narrowly missed. TARQUILLA, unhurried early, made her bid from between horses on entering the stretch and finished full of run. LOUISE BELL, impeded momentarily nearing the quarter-mile ground, responded readily when clear and closed a big gap. INFATUATION, forwardly placed from the start, moved into a clear lead when the winner bore out through the early stretch but had little left when the real test came LITTLE PACHE, far back for the first half mile, was forced to come extremely wide to make her bid and, under her impost, closed a big gap.
