May 15. — A ,040.80 Daily Double pay-off and an impressive winning performance by George J. Schatz veteran campaigner. Lewis A. D., and the riding feats of the vastly improved apprentice Richard Barnett highlighted the Tuesday night racing menu. A surprisingly large crowd of 4,655 enthusiasts turned out for their favorite sport under ideal weather conditions and a more surprising racing strip that was at its best for the eight-race program. Ably ridden by the veteran L. J. Colcla-sure, Lewis A. D., who was beaten a short distance by Bills Captain in his seasonal debut, did not tire in last nights feature, holding on well in the drive to outlast the pace-forcer Kleestep, from the Mattingly and Hardick establishment. Earl Millards Yellow Fly came with a belated rush in the stretch to save i,he minor award, getting up near the end to outfinish the faltering Mucho Frio. Others accepting the engagement were Telary, Mala Kee and Bills Captain, who defeated the Schatz veteran in their last meeting and also the second choice in the wagering. Barnett, who rode a triple on the card, began his nights work in the opening number when he put up an excellent ride to win a head decision on Newton Clarks Winds Pride after the latter appeared beaten an eighth Ire ;he finish. Barnett somehow managed tc p his mount going in the stretch and 5*111 had enough left near the end to outlf Hypostyle.
