C. W. Smith Named Assistant Race Secretary at ThistleDown NORTH RANDALL. Ohio. May 5.— C. W. Smith, well known racing official and former jockey, has been named assistant racing secretary at ThistleDown according to an accouncement made here today by : General Manager John OKeeffe. Smith, recently stepped up into the post of Racing Secretary at Beulah Park due to the illness of Fred Burton. As a race rider. Smith was best known as a regular pilot of the Canadian speedster. Ten To Ace, on whose back he won i the 1942 running of the Queens Plate. In recent years. Smith has worked in various official capacities under Gordon Morrow at Lincoln Downs and other race tracks. During the past few seasons he has also held the position of Racing Secretary at Scarborough Downs. He will report to ThistleDown immediately after the Beulah ! Park meeting and will double as a placing judge at this suburban track which opens on May 27.
