Bally Ache Probable Comely Choice Faces Nine Rivals In Juvenile Event Strongest Contention Likely To Come From Ira Eaker and Conestoga at Jamaica Today t By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent JAMAICA, L. I. N. Y. May 5.— Bally Ache, a bay son of Bally dam and Celestial Blue, who races under the Leonard D. Fruchtman silks, heads a field of 10 better class juveniles scheduled to meet here Wednesday afternoon in the 7,900 Comely Stakes, initial two-year-old stakes of the current New York season. The Fruchtman colt will be ridden by jockey Dave Erb in the 5 furlongs feature. Bally Ache defeated a pair of his Comely rivals in the Island Park Purse here April 22 Everett and Jean Jacobs Midas farm colt, Ira Eaker, and C. Mahlon Klines Conestoga. The victor shouldered 122 pounds and stepped through the sloppy footing in :57%, shattering a 17-year-old 5 furlongs track record. Bally Aches margin over Ira Eaker, early pacemaker, was but three-quarters of a length with Conestoga earning the show award three and one-half lengths back of the lapped leaders. While Ira Eaker and Conestoga are expected to give Bally Ache a stiff battle in the Comely, several others in the field have shown good speed during their initial campaigns. The Wheatley Stable colt won his first start in :59, carrying 118 pounds along to a three lengths graduation decision. The action displayed by Progressing was near-perfect despite the fact that he was making his debut. Penowa Rullah, the get of Nasrullah and I the Count Fleet mare Our Fleet, also made food the first time he went to the post. The Sasso colt coasted to a two and three-quarters lengths accounting in :584/5, time he might have bettered had he been placed to sterner pressure.
